“Excellent base for enjoying Siracusa.”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

Nice hotel in a pretty convenient location, a few steps away from Ortigia, and not far from the railway station. Resulting from a smart restructuring of a nice private house, it holds some of the original architecture features, and adds some modern design and comfort to both the common areas and rooms. Rooms and bathrooms are just perfect, with plenty of space and all kind of modern equipment you would expect in a freshly-built modern hotel. But, here the atmosphere is much warmer and relaxing. A small criticism? no power plugs on the desk for your PC / cellphone / GPS/... (when will architects realize this is a must, as of today?!?!); but there are at the bedsides. Personnel is very helpful and kind. One of the positive points is that you can reach the hotel by car, if you have one, then enjoy fulll visit in Ortigia just by walking, and also many other places in Siracusa by public transportation. Yes, finding a parking place requires a little patience, but it is not that difficult; this is the only drawback. Breakfast is good enough, but could still improve by adding a few more Sicilian specialties (cakes, fresh fruit, ...).

I had a five-night-stay at the hotel. I have been to Siracusa quite a few times, this is my first stay at this hotel. Room is hugh in Italian standard, come to think of it, I think I got the room that is in their brochure. Free wi-fi works great, great staff, though you should not ask too complicated question in English. It could be a little noisy on the weekend nights since the hotel is close to the artery that connect Ortygia to the main island of Sicily. But you get great choice of neighborhood eateries, plus the walk to center of Ortygia is less than 15 min walking leisurely. More shopping and eating choice (though many could be touristy) in Ortygia. I really like the hotel's deco, modern and classy and still works well with the old classic building. However, they are starting to show ware and tear. I do see workers putting on new paint and making other maintenance activities getting ready for the busy season. The room is clean and the bed very comfortable. Be aware if you are attracted by availability of parking, there is only two reserved space next to the hotel that you can park on the street. Other times you have to drive around the blocks to find parking. I had no problem most of the night except weekends. One added bonus is if you are struggling to get your laundry done in Italy, the rescue is down the street, Wash and Dry run by a couple will do your laundry, plus folding them for you for the same price you can do them yourself! One load is only €7! My prayer has been answered.

I stayed here for 3 nights in Feb. The hotel is beautiful, an old mansion converted to a hotel with lovely fittings. They have however skimped on a few basic areas - floors are tiled instead of carpeted which makes for cold feet in winter, and no english language TV.
Also some issues with english not being spoken at all by some of the reception staff, which for an international 4 star hotel anywhere is pretty unusual.
Breakfast was amazing, fantastic sicilian pastries on offer as well as cereals, hot chocolates, and other goodies. Sadly they also kept serving those small oven-baked dinner rolls at breakfast which had hardened into rocks and were quite inedible. The waiter hovers nervously and refills every piece of butter and bit of food as soon as you take it which is kinda weird....
The only real problem i had here was the water - when i turned on the shower, brown - i mean REALLY BROWN - water came out. i let it run before calling reception who sighed and went 'yes, let it run for ten minutes' like it was an ordinary occurence. Needless to say, the water was always brown. I'm not sure what caused it but it shouldn't be happening in a hotel of this standard. i certainly couldn't drink the tap water or use it for teeth brushing.
Otherwise, lovely place, a bit impersonal as someone else has commented, but good value in low season for me.
location convenient, halfway between train station and ortygia, both are convenient walking distances, and i also walked to the archaeological site (only about 20 mins or so).

We had a 2 night stay in the hotel, staff were friendly and helpful, however overall feel of the hotel for me was a bit impersonal. Rooms were clean and well equipped. The hotel is well placed just outside the old town (10 minutes) walk away. We enjoyed our stay here, no real negative except, as I say, a bit impersonal.

Stayed here for two nights in November and would recommend this hotel. Modern, large light rooms with nice bathrooms and small balconies overlooking the sea. This hotel is on the edge of the mainland - a short 5 minute walk to Ortygia and roughly 15 minutes to the main cathedral. Parking is avaliable outside (just get a hotel sign from reception). Breakfast was good although unfortunately the coffee was dreadful (unusual for Italy!). Staff were very friendly, giving lots of advice more accurate than our guide books.Only downside is traffic outside is a little noisy at night. Would stay in again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the sea; traffic a little noisy so ask for...

We stayed here for our week in Sicily and enjoyed our stay very much. This hotel is very well placed for visiting the sights of Syracuse - it's 5 minutes walk to Ortegia and 15-20 minutes walk to the Parco Archaeologico della Neapolis. Free parking is available in the streets around the hotel and we didn't have a problem finding a space. It's easy to find and easy to drive out of town to get around the area. The hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable, the rooms are a decent size and the staff were all very friendly and helpful (although most had limited English). The breakfast was a bit disappointing and the wi-fi was very flakey but apart from these minor niggles I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our rooms overlooked the internal courtyard rather than the street and were beautifully quite

Great place graet location and very welcoming people at the Albergo Alfeo. They directed us to touring the city, the breakfast included was quite decent and the price we got quoted was outstanding for a 4 stars hotel

Room Tip: The Managing Director was more than accomodating and very welcoming
