“Excellent, Except The WIFI Connection”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Quite a surprise here. This is a very high quality hotel. The WIFI connection is awful though. Really really weak. No WIFI in the rooms, only in the lobby near the front desk. If more than one person is using it, it's dead.
Good location. The thermostat will only allow up to 28 degrees centigrade (we prefer 29-30).
This hotel had the most kick-[--] shower we found anywhere in Sicily (Except Hotel Carmine in Marsala).
TripAdvisor want me to add characters (200 min), so I'm adding characters...........................and more characters.....SHEESH, come on. This is getting ridiculous now....Characters

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review and for the positive comments.
We are delighted that your experience was pleasant.

As for the wi-fi, there's probably been a problem in the line.
Usually, it doesn't happen.
We are even working to provide the rooms with wi-fi.

The thermostat is factory set to reach 28 ° C.
Unfortunately we cannot increase the temperature beyond that.

We hope to see you soon.

Kind regards
Sr. Rosamaria

Spent two nights here as part of the accommodations provided by Rick Steve's during our Best of Sicily tour. Since we had already stayed at a convent during this trip due to unforeseen situations, I was rather skeptical about staying at another church run accommodation, and this was the first time RS was using this hotel.
What a pleasant surprise, the rooms are spacious, the beds are extremely comfortable, the bathrooms are nice. There's a mini fridge in the room, TV, and free WiFi in the lobby, don't let this discourage you because the lobby is very comfortable too. Each floor has a nice sitting area, to relax if you don't want to be just in your room. The front desk staff is very attentive and eager to please. The hotel is so conveniently located that you have access to many of the sights in Siracusa. I would highly recommend this hotel, for its accommodations and staff.

My wife and I stayed in this pleasant and attractive hotel for four nights. Our room was large, furnished in hansomely and had a view of the sea. The hotel is owned by the church but it is not run in the austere style of typical monastic stays. The staff is a mix of church and lay people - all cheerful and very helpful. The breakfast buffet was more than ample. My only "complaint" was the wifi didn't work very well in our room. There was, however, a nice room with comfortable furniture adjacent to the reception area with excellent reception. We enjoyed our stay there very much and recommend the hotel very highly.

Room Tip: We checked several rooms that were available. The ocean view and rear of the hotel rooms were attrac...

Dear Sir,
thank you for your review.

We're happy that your four-days stay was pleasant and we are glad to read your compliments.

As concern WI-FI, it works only in the lobby and in the ground floor, unfortunately not yet into the rooms (but we're working to improve it).

Me and all the staff hope to see you again on your next trip in Sicily.

Kind regards

The building is unexceptional but its situation isn't, being on the eastern edge of the island of Ortygia, which is the oldest bit of Siracuse. Nuns run Domus Mariae, doing so cheerfully as you would expect. A chain-smoking old retainer hangs about the hotel entrance to guide you into the outside parking space which is pretty spacious.
You have to open the main hotel door in a special way or else it wont work, but we were told how. The steps were steep. The bedroom was adequate tending towards sparse. Breakfast the next morning was in a different hotel building altogether.
The best thing they did was to recommend the Apollonion Osteria da Carlo for an evening meal. One would not normally associate Apollyon with Nuns.

Dear Guest,
thank you for your comment about your stay.

You stayed at the Domus Mariae Albergo, the building in front of the Benessere. So maybe wrongly you left this comment on our page.
But anyway the two Hotels are twins, just with some little difference.
Tha chain-smoking old retainer is not an employeer of the Hotel.
The Albergo has not the lift, so for this reason we help the guests to bring the luggages to the room.

The breakfast is served at the Benessere, just in front.
thank you for your comment and come again to meet us.
Best regards

Sister Rosamaria

My partner and I stayed in this charming hotel for four nights in glorious Siracusa. Our room was large, furnished in an attractive upscale fashion and had a view of the Ionian Sea. The hotel is in a building which houses a group of sisters and there is a private access to a neighboring church. I enjoyed the free internet access and found the staff of the hotel and the nuns to be warm and helpful with my routine questions. My only minor criticism is the lack of some amenities in the room (glass glasses, facial tissues, armchair) and I thought the breakfast was rather skimpy considering the price of the room. The buffet included a large selection of delicious breads and cakes, but offered a very small selection of fresh fruit, cheese and meats.

Room Tip: If you can afford to splurge, select one of the room with a sea view.

Fantastic place to stay! We stayed here for our wedding in ortigia. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast is delicious. The hotel is close to everything also offers a few car spaces if needed. We will definately be back!

We spent three nights here as part of a tour of Sicily. It was a very pleasant stay. The 'unusual' bit in the heading is the fact that the hotel belongs to Ursuline nuns, who float around; a retired bishop takes all his meals in the hotel and has his own table. Don't let this put you off: it made the stay for is to be in this environment. The service is excellent, the two receptionists (completely different personalities, but both with excellent English) were very helpful. We got a spa treatment thrown in at their extensive facility. We only ate in the restaurant on one evening and enjoyed the Sicilian dishes on offer, washed down by a delicious local wine. The hotel is on the seafront, just 5 minutes from the centre of Ortygia (the old town). Our room had a sea view. It was quite compact. Overall the hotel is peaceful, different in a nice way, and easy to recommend.
