In Palermo for our annual visit to celebrate my birthday. We had a table booked at our favourite restaurant I Normanni, reviewed previously, but that was for the evening. However it is long walk from our hotel and the pavements of Palermo are notoriously unyielding and not to say dangerously uneven, especially when wet when they can become positively lethal. So a half way spritz was called for. We chose a bar that we had passed earlier in the day: Bar Pasticceria Ruvolo Rosario. It is in a side street immediately facing the opera house. It was a lovely place, bar, part shop and pasticceria. We sat outside and ordered a couple of spritz. When they came they were so good that they almost reached the standard of the spritz in Bar Doria, Venice. What made our short visit special is what came with our drinks. There was a plate of small pizza pieces topped with caramelised tomato, a bowl of nuts and two more bowls containing biscuits and those little baked breads the name of which I have forgotten. If we had not been on our way for an evening meal this would have sufficed. We had table service and these lovely nibbles and the bill came to €10.We enjoyed it so much that we managed to squeeze in another three visits during our short stay in Palermo. Not only is it a relaxing and reasonably priced place but all the people in there are very nice.
