“Tired hotel, but very well located and helpful reception”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights (May 3-4/12) as the beginning of our tour of Sicily and Southern Italy. Initially we were disappointed, finding that the online photos had made it look a little more upscale. The air is stale in the reception area as well as in the rooms. However, the gentleman at reception was welcoming and very helpful. After opening the window to let some air into our room, we were quite content. The room and bathroom was clean and comfortable. The dining room served a good selection of breakfast items, so all in all, we were happy to have started our journey at such a great location. What impressed us the most was the music in the Politeama square on the evening we arrived. The romance was instant and we fell in love with Palermo... As for location, one couldn't ask for better. It was an easy walk to most sites we wanted to visit and buses convenient also. The airport shuttle was practically at the front door of the hotel, which was a blessing for us when it was time to leave for the airport, with our heavy luggage, to pick up our rental car to start our journey through Italy. We would recommend the hotel to those travellers who are looking for a comfortable place to stay rather than luxury.

Dear client,
Thank you for reporting the characteristic
main of the hotel: the location.
At the heart of the city, in Piazza Politeama, customers
have the opportunity to walk to many
monumental points.
Comfortable shuttle bus outside the hotel that leads to the airport!
Thanks again

My wife and I stayed here on 9 May 2012 as part of a Cosmos tour of southern Italy. The location is excellent, right in front of the Politeama Theatre and the hop-on bus stops right outside. It's in an up-market area, with many luxury shops along the tree-lined Via Liberta. There is a good cafe in the next side street, and you can buy foreign language newspapers just across the road in front of the theatre.
The hotel is clean, and the service and breakfast are very good. We had a quiet room with a view on the 8th floor.
Our only complaint is that there was no English on the TV (as is often the case in Sicily), and tree is no free wifi.

The Politeama is a four star hotel located right next to the Teatro Politeama. I had a nice room on the 7th floor overlooking the Plaza in front of the theater. Except for the car alarm that went off at 3:00 am I enjoyed my stay there. It’s located in a very upscale area; there is a Prada store on the corner. Of special importance is the McDonalds .With your back to the Teatro, it’s across the boulevard on the left side of the street It has only a small yellow sign.. The €1 cheeseburger and €1 fries (patate regulari) are the best deal in Europe! For sightseeing, buy a bus ticket for € 1.30 at the kiosk on the ‘island’ area of the boulevard and take the #104 Bus to the Plaza dei Normanni. It’s the grey wall-like fortress on the right side of the bus. There is a fairly obvious entrance ramp. Inside is the must-see sight in Palermo, the Palatine Chapel. It’s like the Sistine Chapel but done in mosaics! It’s €7.0 to see it; do not buy the €2.0 ticket to see the pile of rocks in the basement. There is also a separate ticket to see the Royal Apartments which are not always open. After seeing the chapel you can walk down Via Victor Emanuele through the Porto Nuova (a scary car-person interactional experience) to see the Cathedral which looks like a hybrid constructed from leftover parts of cathedrals from various centuries. Then continue to the Quattro Canti (Four Corners). Nearby, the Plaza Pretoria has an impressive fountain. Next, try to find the streets where the local outdoor markets are held (you’ ll need a map). You should try to ‘angle’ towards the train station. There you can catch the #101 or #102 bus which will stop right in front of the Politeana Hotel.

We were staying at the Politeama Palace Hotel was during the Christmas holidays/last of the year days. The big Politeama square (and the gorgeous Politemama Theater!) is right across the entrance and was adorned with lights and a huge Christmas tree. I have to tell you that this is the best location for a hotel in Palermo. Lot of restaurants, Via Liberta' (a huge beautiful, tough crowded, avenue) is 15 meters far from the hotel and is a shopping paradise. Safe neighborhood. Personnel (Mr. Enrico in particular) is very professional. The price for staying at the Politeama Palace Hotel, considering the location/ the hotel itself and the "in-price" breakfast, is very convenient. I definitely suggest to book your staying in this hotel. The hotel could use a renovation, indeed, but this would just help them getting a 5/5 rate instead than a 4/5.

Room Tip: Even the rooms located in the front and at the second floor are quite enough, as the hotel has insta...

I was staying at the Hotel Posta and moved here for the last night so I could have easy access to the airport bus at 0415 hours. I had an early flight out in the morning. I was very pleasantly suprised as the hotel appears to have been recently remodeled and looked very modern-ish. Excellent location next to the Teatro and many restaurants in the area. Short stroll up the Liberta takes you into great shopping, strolling and general people watching. Hotel rooms were nicely apportioned with flat screen TV's and Wifi in your room for no extra charge. Good signal too! I booked a single with breakfast buffet for $97.00 so the price was not too bad either. No restaurant in the hotel but plenty nearby.

Firstly, we arrived very late at night, two young women and had pre booked an airport transfer direct with the hotel. Not only did the taxi not arrive, when we rang them / arrived at the hotel there was no apology. We'd purposefully pre booked a transfer as we'd been advised that the taxi rank closed at midnight and we wanted to be sure we had safe transport. On the next day we wanted to visit Marsala on the bus and the receptionist eventually looked up the bus times for us online and told us the bus stopped directly outside the hotel and we could purchase our tickets on board. We dutifully stood in the scorching heat for 35 minutes only to see the bus drive past us, as it in fact stopped a lot further down the street at a different time to when we'd originally been informed. We eventually found the stop and someone sent us to a nearby bar where we had to purchase tickets before we boarded the bus. An hour and a half later we were on our way to Marsala!

Generally, the hotel was ok. Not really a 4 star hotel. Receptions are unhelpful and not sufficiently knowledgable of the area for tourists and do not appear to want to find out basic information (e.g. bus times). Breakfast is fine, European buffet style. Room is clean but the shower could be nicer with a more appropriate shower curtain. No safe in room. Good location but I wouldn't stay here again.
