“Budget price budget service budget rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

This is a budget place and the the price reflects the service and the rooms are budget. Location was great actually for me the location was perfect however the rooms and everything else was average. The hotel was clean that's one thing I can say about this place that was good and the location was great being close to nice restaurants and shops.

Hotel Regina is a cheap one-star hotel located in the center of Palermo. A few steps away is the Quattro Conti and Piazza Pretoria. The entrance is at the gate and only a small sign indicates that this is Hotel Regina. The rooms are small with a shared bathroom. Breakfast is served in the room by the staff of the pre-agreed time. There is a choice of hot coffee, tea, chocolate, croissants and biscuits. Next to the hotel is a restaurant where you can eat cheap pizza.

Modest, quiet, spotlessly clean, friendly and helpful - what more can you want. Great value little hotel in the centre of Palermo, I enjoyed very much the couple of nights I spent here. Though the host doesn't speak much English, like most Sicilians, you'll have no problem communicating with him and he's very helpful. It's a budget place, but good value (free wifi in the rooms is useful) and very handy for sightseeing in Palermo.

Room Tip: My room was at the back and very quiet, so I don't know if rooms on the other side might be a bi...

The hotel is right in the centre of the old city of Palermo and is run by a really friendly and helpful family with great staff. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy. The bathroom is down the hall but although small is again clean and tidy. The rooms do not have air conditioning so if you are from northern countries remember the summers are hot. The walls are thick so the rooms stay coolish and if your room has a ceiling fan that really helps.

Room Tip: ceiling fan really helps

I paid €30 per night for two nights. A little extra to have my own bathroom compared to the slightly cheaper rooms. Room size OK, shower water nice and hot, tv worked, wi-fi worked and some helpfull advice from reception. It is no frills (and no sign of breakfast!!) and if you simply want a basic cheap place to stay then this is as good as any. 5 min walk from the central station and coach stop and central to old town attractions.

Room Tip: There is a Carefour just down the road for cheap water and food rather than the over priced resturan...

First, the warnings - if you are obsessive about cleanliness, can't stand being in a place without AC during the Summer time or care excessively about furnishings and decor, you should give this place a miss.

On the other hand, this is probably the cheapest hotel I have stayed in Italy. Perhaps North American travellers may expect more for €30 - €35 a night at home, but in Italy/Europe, you should expect next to nothing.

But in the Hotel Regina, you do get your money's worth for the location. It is just ridiculous - right on the Quattro Canti (for those who don't know Palermo, it's the equivalent of London's Piccadilly Circus or New York's Times Square!). I happened to have a room at the back, overlooking the gorgeous dome of the Teatini church. It was also extremely quiet.

So on the whole, it was very functional and useful. I would stay here again, frankly. Palermo is such an amazing city that you will almost not get to see your hotel room anyway, as you will be out there discovering this amazing place.

OK. 'You get what you pay for' is generally a good maxim I subscribe to. I paid 28euros per night for 4 nights. No breakfast. Fine. SHared bathroom, portable electric fan, Window onto a courtyardy thing and the side of a church, sink in room, old-skool tv. All fine and dandy for 28 a night. However, if the bed is so uncomfortable that you find it difficult to sleep, what's the point)? Hard mattresses I can handle. But with holes and protruding bits it becomes difficult to even think about sleep. Plus the (single) pillow in my room was very deep so at the earliest opportunity I had to switch with a low one from next door (which also turned out to be uneven (resting you head on a bag of loose tennis balls, anyone?))
The old guy on reception didn't speak English, but that's not a problem for me. The younger guy did, anyway.
The hotels location is great, 50m from the 4 canti, and 100m or so (turning right on Vitt Emanuele) to a good breakfast bar with great pastries.
Overall, wouldn't stay there again, mainly for the bed reason, but I was on a budget so couldn't complain (too much) for the price.
PS Oh, and there was building work going on next door so hammer drills kicked off around 8am. I stay in room 13, next door to a bathroom,. Photos attached.
