“great hotel in palermo”

Near Via della Liberta, sort of a 5th avenue for Palermo, this is a very nice hotel, well located with a pleasant atmosphere. The hotel has large rooms, a nice bar/restaurant, friendly staff and has been largely renovated.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Melania the brilliantly helpful sage of Palermo upgraded when we checked in and answered all our questions about Palermo.

The room was big with beautiful high ceilings, tall windows and a massive bed. The latter was very comfortable but the chambermaid could possibly have made it up better, linen seemed creased and not crisp. However it was clean and fresh and we had a wonderful sleep. The whole hotel harks back to period glory and the beautiful breakfast room is both grand yet intimate at the same time. The buffet breakfast was high quality, very international as you'd expect with excellent Italian coffees. Pastries, cheeses, meats, fruits, yoghurt, cereals and the most creamy, fresh scrambled eggs I've tasted in a while. Bathroom was huge with rain shower and excellent toiletries. I really can't fault this hotel. In 20 years of travel it's one of the best I've stayed at. Not the most luxurious but in terms of setting out to be what it says it is, it ticks the boxes. The only complaint could be location as it's right at the end of Palermo's main shopping street and a good 20 mins walk to the markets, the old town etc, but this didn't bother us as we like the exercise.

Tip: On street parking right next to hotel is easy at €1/hour (free overnight) so you don't need to pay for the hotel's valet parking. Park in bays marked in blue and buy a Pay and Display scratch card voucher for however long you want to park for. The hotel is 15 mins walk from Notarbartalo station and not even 3 minutes walk from the airport shuttle bus stop (the latter is far quicker than the train to get to the airport, taking 30 mins cf 45-60 minutes on an excruciatingly slow single-tracked stopping service which bizarrely styles itself as an "express").

But as far as the hotel is concerned, d-mob happy.

I stayed twice in this Hotel, on business trips to Palermo.

This is a very good Hotel, that managed to keep its classy charm over the decades. Service is efficient and with that old-school "savoir-fare" that truly makes a difference. Breakfast is very good, and the bar and restaurant areas have a charming atmosphere.

The rooms are large for italian standards, well decorated and reasonably well equipped. Rooms safes are large enough for most laptops.

The Hotel is located close to a number of nice restaurants, and not far away from the older, historic area of Palermo (some would say walking distance, others would recommend a short taxi ride).

On the negative side,a few small issues:

- in spite of its charm, this is a city Hotel with no outdoor areas. The nearby gardens compensate for this, but if I were on holidays with my family I would probably opt for a different type of Hotel.

- WiFi is paid and of reasonable (but not good) speed.

- in both stays the cleaning ladies made a lot of noise around 7h30 in the morning, talking loud with each other in front of the rooms. This is not acceptable, especially taking into account the remarkable quality of service I noticed in general.

- in both stays the Hotel tried to charge one or two minibar itens I did not consume. Careful at check-out.

Room Tip: Some rooms in the third floor have nice large and sunny "Velux" windows (but no street vie...

we will definitely go back. excellent breakfast with many healthy choices. responsive friendly staff most attentive to our needs. we stayed 6 nights and due to our Hilton status were upgraded to a junior suite which made a big difference for us. the location is perfect in a trendy part of town with upscale shops, trattoriaa and pizzerias. we are very physically fit and could walk everywhere. if you rent a car parking is expensive but a garage on agrigento street offered half price for 24 hours - ten euros - otherwise parking is free on the street after 2000 hours untili 0800. hotel recommendations for eating were perfect every night. the gym could be bigger and have more options but we did so much walking it did not matter.

Room Tip: try to get upgraded as it makes a big difference from an interior room. we think our hilton status m...

One of those forgettable hotels. It functioned, i was there for 2 nights on business. Wi-Fi worked, Bath tub was great, water hot. But in some strange way it seems to lack a soul. In a way same could be said for Palermo, seemed a little bit too much like a soulless, functional place. Only when i was out in the days travelling west to Marsala did you feel like it was Sicily. Ate out at CinCin restaurant one evening and that was great. Wonderful Semi Freddo for dessert and faulous Buffalo Mozzarella with strawberry marmalade. Try it if you're in Palermo.

Room Tip: Request a park view

The first experience was a bellman very rudely telling us that we could not park in a clearly designed "unloading zone". I'm not sure what he expected us to do with our bags. I handed him the keys and told him to handle the situation. No real "welcome" afforded by anyone. There was no concierge to help and the front desk personnel were useless and disinterested about everything. They wouldn't even accomodate a small currency exchange we needed for taxis. The breakfast service was disorganized and no one offered and help including seating or memus. Good thing that our stay was only for one night.
I was never so happy to get out and to the airport.

Room Tip: Don't book any room.
