After staying in a series of budget hotels throughout Italy (some with shared bathrooms), this was a nice step up. Large room, comfortable, clean, great bathroom. WIFI was extra and some what difficult to access via iPhone. Felt comfortable walking in this area to oter restaurants, cafes, bus stop, etc. Shuttle to the beach was extra, but a great deal. Beach area had lounge chairs, sun umbrella, valuables locker and the beach towel came with us from the hotel. Our breakfast was not included because we had booked a budget deal through a travel site, but we preferred trying the expresso bars and found one nearby with pastries and breakfast pockets that were superb.

Room Tip: Second floor inside (away from streets on either side) was very quiet.

This is a busy city hotel in an excellent location. The breakfast is ridiculous and the breakfast room is spectacular. Had a very nice stay at the hotel, the staff is very professional. Most attractions are in walking distance.

The first room was in the bottom of the air shaft. This is a renovated villa, so the rooms differ. We asked to be moved and were happy. They had a wonderful breakfast, but ran out of towels. Almost all the small hotels have free wifi, but the Hilton wants about $20 for wifi. Weird. There was a communist rally that weekend in the park across the street. Cental location.

Room Tip: Ask for the air shaft if you want quiet.

I recently stayed at this Hilton property with my husband and parents. It was our first visit to Sicily, and this was a very good hotel to begin our journey. (Sicily is absolutely wonderful, by the way. Go experience this beautiful and friendly island!) My only disappointment with the hotel was the front desk staff. From other TripAdvisor reviews, I read that the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we did not have this experience. The staff was not rude, but they weren't particularly welcoming or helpful. In most cases, our questions were treated like a slight imposition of their time. (As another reviewer has pointed out, there is no "concierge".)

Everything else about the hotel and our stay was very pleasant. The location is very good. As others have pointed out, while not in the middle of the action, the hotel is close enough to major downtown attractions that fit folks can easily walk to them in under 30 minutes. My husband and I enjoyed the walking. My parents are much less mobile, but the hotel was on the "Hop On/Hop Off" tourist bus route, so they found that mode of transportation to be very convenient for them, and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Breakfast at the hotel was quite good, and the service there was friendly and excellent. Our rooms at the hotel were more than adequate in terms of size and comfort. The bathrooms, in particular, are very nice and clean.

Note that the hotel is popular with tour groups, so if you arrive at the lobby at the wrong time, you might be greeted by a lot of luggage. This was not a problem for our small group of four, as we were pretty flexible on time, and the tour groups seemed to arrive at the breakfast room earlier than we did. I didn't mind the tour groups at all. In fact, I met a lovely Canadian couple at the bar one evening, and chatting with them was a great nightcap!

Be sure to visit Monreale while in Palermo -- definitely the highlight of our time in the city.

Room Tip: Our room opened up onto a busy square, but it was not noisy at all due to shutters and two sets of d...

Very nice hotel. Reasonably spacious, clean room with a very efficient and quiet a/c.
The entire hotel gave the impression of being quite recently remodelled as no wear and tear was evident.
The breakfast buffet was excellent.
Centrally located, but not in the middle of the tourist arera if that is important. Only 5-7 minutes walk down to the ballet and opera house though so quite a good location.

Room Tip: Some traffic outside, so ask for a room high up (low building though), although noise isn't real...

I read the reviews for this hotel before I booked it for our visit to Sicily, and the hotel turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The location is very good, on the primary north-south street and within walking distance of most of the city sites. The $20 Euro a day valet service was prompt enough and necessary as parking on the street is nearly impossible, as it is in most big cities. It is clear that the hotel itself was once a beautiful property, but it is in need of updating. The carpeting in the room and in the public areas needed to be replaced ten + years ago. The metal latches for our window and our shutters were both broken due to age. We received wrong directions from the front desk personnel (confirmed later by another front desk person - there is no concierge.) Finally, we found the hotel-recommended Le Volte to be OK, but not the exceptional experience that many reviewers found it - perhaps being in Sicily two weeks prior to arriving in Palermo put it in a different perspective. However, the other restaurant recommended by the hotel (and quite a bit more expensive) we found to be a terrific find - Bell'Otero Ristorante. It too is within a short walk from the hotel and the food was exceptional and authentic Sicilian fare. If you get a chance, visit/eat at the Hilton Grand Hotel Villa Igiea, also in Palermo - its out of the way - $15Euro cab fare from the Hilton Excelsior - but the ambiance is true Old World and the setting is beautiful.

We stayed at the Hilton after flying in from Australia. The hotel has recently been done up so it's an old facade with fairly new rooms. Clean, comfortable and not expensive at all. Great location to be able to walk around Palermo, staff are quite friendly and the breakfast is great.
