“Great hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

Very nice hotel. Reasonably spacious, clean room with a very efficient and quiet a/c.
The entire hotel gave the impression of being quite recently remodelled as no wear and tear was evident.
The breakfast buffet was excellent.
Centrally located, but not in the middle of the tourist arera if that is important. Only 5-7 minutes walk down to the ballet and opera house though so quite a good location.

Room Tip: Some traffic outside, so ask for a room high up (low building though), although noise isn't real...

I read the reviews for this hotel before I booked it for our visit to Sicily, and the hotel turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The location is very good, on the primary north-south street and within walking distance of most of the city sites. The $20 Euro a day valet service was prompt enough and necessary as parking on the street is nearly impossible, as it is in most big cities. It is clear that the hotel itself was once a beautiful property, but it is in need of updating. The carpeting in the room and in the public areas needed to be replaced ten + years ago. The metal latches for our window and our shutters were both broken due to age. We received wrong directions from the front desk personnel (confirmed later by another front desk person - there is no concierge.) Finally, we found the hotel-recommended Le Volte to be OK, but not the exceptional experience that many reviewers found it - perhaps being in Sicily two weeks prior to arriving in Palermo put it in a different perspective. However, the other restaurant recommended by the hotel (and quite a bit more expensive) we found to be a terrific find - Bell'Otero Ristorante. It too is within a short walk from the hotel and the food was exceptional and authentic Sicilian fare. If you get a chance, visit/eat at the Hilton Grand Hotel Villa Igiea, also in Palermo - its out of the way - $15Euro cab fare from the Hilton Excelsior - but the ambiance is true Old World and the setting is beautiful.

We stayed at the Hilton after flying in from Australia. The hotel has recently been done up so it's an old facade with fairly new rooms. Clean, comfortable and not expensive at all. Great location to be able to walk around Palermo, staff are quite friendly and the breakfast is great.

Hotel is handily situated- on main bus route between railway station and airport- about 1km from the main areas of interest in central Palermo- either a decent length walk or a short hop on the bus away. Bus to the beach is just oppostite the hotel.

Rooms were large and well maintained, spotlessly clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming- perfect English spoken.

We paid a bargain price for such a well-appointed and well-run hotel.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 7 nights from the 24/08 and it was the best stay I have ever had so far. The hotel was wonderful with a fitting aesthetic to rural Palermo. We were warmly welcomed to the hotel with staff that were so very helpful and all of whom spoke English. Anything you needed or requested you can be sure will be met above a satisfactory standard. Our room was nothing but spacious with all the amenities you will want and need to have a relaxing stay. The one point I would make is that if you prefer a balcony view, upgrade if you can through the site HHonors. I learnt of this during our stay but it certainly isn't anything that you will perhaps regret if you're without.
A recommendation of restaurant is Al Viale, which you can find along the main road Della Liberta and just on the corner of via Archimede. The waiters are all friendly and attentive! As is the owner who was only more than happy to help with our trip by calling us a cab and suggesting places of attraction to visit.
Last word; stay at the Excelsior Hilton, Palermo! :D

Stayed for a week-end in the end of July at Hilton Palermo. Booked upgrade through HHonors web-site and was upgraded at check-in. Room was about 35-40 sq.m. will a balcony overlooking roofs and not the central street Via della Liberta.
All the amenities were in place. Hotel is located in the city centre, close to Politeama Garibaldi and Teatro Massimo. Service was good, but nothing special. I have mentioned that every time I was entering lobby there were nobody in the front desk unless there were someone checking in or out.
Air-conditioning in hotel functions very good that is very important in the South of Italy in July. Expensive Wi-Fi, 17 euro for 24 h.
After leaving the hotel did not get my HHonors points and Lufthansa miles, but after addressing customer care credit was fixed. Would stay again

I think this place is one of the best value accommodation choices in the Hilton portfolio worldwide...for not much cash we got a beautiful room in an old palace with French windows and a view towards one of the nearby parks.

The rooms are very spacious, breakfast featured a wide selection and great service and the hotel is located in one of Palermo's most beautiful areas.

There's really no fault to be found with this hotel maybe other than the lack of a pool, but then again the building is such that one probably can't be fitted in. Highly recommended!
