“Far out man”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

Stayed in July '12. The location isn't great as there's not much to do outside the Hotel. The rooms are very spacious and they are kept relatively clean. It's not 4 star but 3 wouldn't be enough. A few pizzerias on the strip, Either the third or second one (apologies) was hands down the best pizza I have ever tasted.

Having read reviews prior to arrival we were very suspicious of leaving cash in the room. The carpets need a good clean. the breakfast is fine. Typical European buffet. One thing to bear in mind, it's right beside a market. The stench is cruel. All that being said, the staff were polite, avoid the taxis as they are keen to take the scenic route and buses are fairly frequent. Not too bad for the price and there's a supermarket right beside it.

We stayed in several 4-star hotels in Sicily recently and they were all far far better than the Astoria. The hotel is located in a very scruffy insalubrious area and we were disturbed very early in the morning by the noise from the nearby market. The staff were not very friendly or helpful. Here are some additional reasons why we will not be returning:

· We had to ask for the air conditioning to be switched on and then found that the hotel restricted the use of it to two hours a day and then a few hours in the evening. When it was on the air conditioning fan was very noisy.
· The towels were inadequate, mainly being just thin linen, like tea towels.
· The floor covered appeared to be some cheap plastic-like material.
· One of the chairs had the arm padding missing.
· The room was grubby.
· The toilet flush splashed water on your hand every time you used it.
· Most of the floor we were on and the floor above were occupied by a large school party, which is hardly indicative of a 4-star hotel.
· The children were constantly playing in the corridor outside our room and in the lifts so that we had to walk down four floors to our evening meal.

Located towards the outskirts of the city in 'leafy' Sampolo, this place offers a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of downtown Palermo...Check-in was polite and curt but not particularly friendly - No information was given regarding the available facilities and there was no porter, which given the size and reputation of the hotel quite surprised me. The room was comfortable but had clearly seen better days, there was a balcony with a view of a huge car-park, multi-channel TV and a mini-bar available. There was no food menu in the room however (despite room service being available) and no local information pack/map either, which I have to say was disappointing. The buffet breakfast involved plenty of jostling amongst international, multi-lingual herds of tour groups and their noisy guides. There is a vague sense of this being a 4 star hotel (restaurant and spa facilities on-site) but the place feels rather tired and attention to detail is clearly lacking...Consequently this is a three star review for a four star hotel, which for my money is not all that it should be...It was a fairly decent option for my last night in Palermo but having splashed out a little I won't be in any hurry to rush back...Being awoken at 5am by vendors at the nearby fruit market screaming at each other was just another deal-breaker.

by far the worst hotel I´ve ever been,
dark rooms (we saw two because the first was not cleaned when we arrived, the other choice was even worse, ill smelling with smoke and other things?)
the area the hotel is in has nothing to offer for at least 2k´s around,
breakfast and dinner was served? as buffet, which was alright when you got into the dinner room,
but imagine 300 hungry people in front of closed doors ´till 8.00 pm beeing released...
this has nothing to do with **** !

Room Tip: just avoid the 1st and 2nd floor, ´cause you´ll be behind iron bars

rude staff, in a way - they do if you ask , but so bored by visitors already in April :). If you prefer to sleep with open window (I thought in 10 th floor should be not noise), avoid the west windows - they face "Mercato ortopfrutticolo" - fruit market and you will be woken up at 4 a.m. with loud "prego , prego " . Location isn't perfect - about 30 min walk from the city center, food was lower than average. rooms gave a displeasing feeling, thought clean. Another anoying thing - piles of waste bags near hotel.

this hotel is just a factory for tourists buses, no respect for the client. On 1rst day cable internet was not working in my room. After a tech visit they offered me to change room. 2nd day same problem ! they said there was no room available & showed very little concern for my situation. Besides that, the rooms are old, beds are like for camping, no restaurant around, sad district. Four stars is such a lie.
Never go there !!!

Clean rooms, courteous staff, lavish breakfast, good location if you wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city centre .....what else to say?full marks. The ambience outside is part of the sicilian culture, there is no trash left lying on purpose, there is a vegetable and fruit market, what else to expect after hours of hard work?I have seen much worse in more 'high' class areas.
When you are in sicily do what the sicilians do live life simply and appreciate the culture.
Will sure return....thanks for all
