Stayed for one night as a stopover. My fault - but didn't pay attention to how far off the main road the hotel is - and quite complicated to get to. That might not have mattered if we had been greeted with warmth - or even courtesy - on arrival. But rude, disinterested staff seem to be a specialty here, especially the barman who seemed to think it was above him to serve us, and the porter who watched me haul four bags to the car without lifting a finger!
Room was stuffy and the aircon didn't work and there was a broken spring in the bed which came through the mattress! And it was sharp! This wasn't just inconvenient - it was dangerous!
On the positive side, the gardens are pretty; the view is nice; breakfast on the terrace is lovely.
And the pictures on the walls from c.1908 are interesting. But methinks its heyday was 1908.
Avoid: overpriced; awful service; uncomfortable.

Beautiful, elegant hotel. The rooms were large and well appointed. We had a nice veranda with a table and chairs. The dining room was large and beautifully decorated. There was an adjoining veranda where you good eat if you chose,to. Excellent daily breakfast. The dining room staff were very accommodating. The front desk people were less accommodating and it was difficult to set up a wake up call in the evening because they didn't answer the phone. The location was quiet and right on the harbor.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the front of the hotel had more noise.

This hotel is undeniably beautiful and the view from the gardens over the harbour is stunning. However, my room was so dark and really noisy at night as a busy road runs in front of the hotel. As commented by other guests the shutters were a really bad fit and impossible to open, so no chance of seeing outside. There is a bus stop just outside with regular buses into town but otherwise it is a long and unpleasant 40 minute walk into town, many of roads have no pavements and you need to cross a very busy dual carrigeway or a 20 euro taxi fare... Breakfast looks very smart but often not well replenished at busy periods. Staff helpful when around but reception not always manned during my stay and renovation work was in progress in more than one area of the hotel during my stay.

I stayed here years ago and still remember the place. it was big and beautiful and almost reminded me of the hotel in the Shining, but with crazy Jack Nicholson and his axe.

Granted, I was there at low season so I had much of the place to myself, but what nice rooms, beautiful grounds and an awesome setting, especially at night. If you've got some money and want a nice place to stay in Palermo, I definitely recommend the Villa Igiea. Just make sure you plan ahead, like a year in advance for the high season because they get booked pretty quickly.

Spent 3 nights there with my girlfriend and her family. Pretty bad experience. Rude service (and sometimes no service at all). One night we waited almost 30 minutes on the terasse before someone came and take our drinks order + another 20 minutes before they arrived... pretty long for 2 beers and 2 sodas. The rooms didn't had anything special. My brother in law and her fiancee had 2 twin beds in their room, they asked for a switch 4 times but the hotel didn't do anything about it. Rude service at the restaurant. We paid with bills and told us they didn't had any change to give us back... I'm sorry, but no change in a hotel? Too bad, no tip. The food wasn't even that good. The place is not clean everywhere. The only positive thing about this hotel was the pool and the garden. Other than that, nothing. We did 3 other places in Italy during that trip (Grand Timeo, Verdura resort + Rome Cavalieri) and we missed those hotels so much while we were at Villa Igliea! Don't go there!

Having stayed at the 5 start Villa Iglea hotel over the christmas period I was annoyed, its 5 start rating is clearly attained by the hotels historical grandure and smattering of oppulence the hotel has. Basic fundamentals (clean and acceptable) are there but not to the 5 star standard expected for this 'luxury' break.

Palermo is a dirty city (other then the one main street with all the big shopping names on it like Armani etc) steer clear, Palermo gives (i have been assured) the rest of Sicily a bad name and should be avoided.

Dont waste your money, I thought I did my research using this site, the recommendations provided must have been from either the staff at the Villa Iglea or the Palermo tourist board, BE WARNED!!

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel and possbly location (not Palermo)
