Hotel in a lovely setting by the marina. Difficult to find using hotel website directions and working through Palermo traffic, poor road signs and blocked roads gave unwarranted stress.
The concierge was fantastically helpful in giving directions later for our drives outside the city.

The rooms are pleasant and set in attractive gardens with pool and tennis court but we missed
having a tea/ coffee maker in the room, or adequate lighting in a very dark room, and sufficient cotton towels. Linen towels are like tea towels and really passe now surely.

The biggest complaint was the 15 Euros per 24 hours charge for Wi-Fi , especially as my partner needed to use his computer daily.

The breakfast, served on the attractive waterside terrace, was plentiful though service for tea/coffee could be slow. The restaurant lunch taken on our first day was pretentious and lacked flavour and the first course came as an inadequate and unexplained substitution. We found much better places to eat in Palermo, notablyLa Scudiero in Via Turati.

The 'Fitness Room ' was very poor - no water in the cold cupboards, broken machinery and limited equipment. looked like a very tired afterthought.

Overall this hotel aspires to greatness but could make considerable improvements to make guests more satisfied. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels and experienced far better quality and value.

We liked the hotel very much but two issues - firstly, they charge 9 euros per day per ipad for internet access when any small rural hotel offers it free. Also, their driving instructions on their website are inaccurate and you will get very lost if you follow them,as we did. We pointed this problem out to the reception desk who seemed aware but unwilling or unable to do anything to fix it for future guests who will spend an hour lost in an unsavoury part of Palermo as a result of an easily fixable issue.

The location and setting of the hotel are beautiful, a bit out of chaotic Palermo. The hotel itself is quite grand and has a beautiful view of the sea. The rooms on the other hand could use an update. They are dark and dated with lots of heavy fabrics making them a bit dreary. While we were there we had to change rooms several times because the air conditioning didn't work in our rooms. (our family had 3 rooms and we all had to change rooms) The staff reluctantly change our rooms after several complaints.

The service in the bar, restaurants, and pool area moves at a glacial pace. Breakfast is an extremely lengthy affair in order to get coffee or tea. At one point we served ourselves because we were tired of waiting 20 minutes for coffee. Service in the bar is really, really slow too. The food in the restaurants is also mediocre at best. We went to a spanish themed dinner by the pool one evening and they were serving the same appetizers with our dinner that were part of the free appetizers in the bar. They also served some of the items that were part of the morning breakfast buffet. We were far from impressed, especially since they charge top $$ for the food here.

Overall the setting is stunning but there is lots of room for improvement with the service and the rooms!

This hotel certainly has the wow factor with its grand entrance, high ceilings, impressive decor and beautiful sea views. Check in was straightforward and the staff seemed friendly and efficient.

The best way to describe our room was striking! Padded dark blue patterned velour type wallpaper with identical curtains, upholstery and bed linen made it incredibly dark and necessary to have lights on even in the middle of the day. As others have mentioned our room was designed to look over the (beautiful) gardens but in fact gave us a prime view of the fenced off rubbish containers which also appeared to house at least a dozen cats. Thankfully they were quiet during the night otherwise it might have made our stay quite difficult.

Bathroom was marble clad with a bath that didn't fit into the required space leaving a huge gap at the end. The shower was in the said bath complete with a ropey shower curtain. Surely a hotel of this quality can do better? Hot water was sporadic. Fine in the morning but if you wanted a shower before going out in the evening you had to leave it running for 10 minutes before water came through. Our toilet also leaked.

Breakfast was extremely good with beautiful sea views though the service was a bit hit and miss. There appeared to be only one waitress serving coffee and she couldn't cope when it was busy. I heard a couple of guests complaining about the wait and indeed one morning we had finished and left the restaurant before she appeared with ours.

Take note that their bar and snack menu prices are extremely steep. We didn't try the latter but a couple of very small glasses of wine cost €14 each. Not sure how they can justify that but lovely eating and drinking areas both inside and out.

Wi-fi has extremely complicated tariffs but we found the connection good. We didn't find any noise problems with the A/C as others have mentioned.

Swimming pool area is great with loads of places to lie out so you're not all on top of each other though the pool itself could do with a decent clean.

In all, a very enjoyable stay and we definitely preferred the situation of this hotel rather than one in the centre of Palermo.

Room Tip: Take a sea view room in order to avoid the possibility of looking out over the hotel's rubbish c...

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea in Palermo for two nights in September, as we circumnavigated Sicily (see, e.g. our recent reviews of Hotel Villa Ducale and Eremo della Giubiliana, and Villa Sicilia Baglio). The hotel is an aging Grand Dame that is showing her age. The hotel is located about a ten-minute drive from the heart of Palermo, which is both a positive and a negative. A positive because of the water views and relative serenity afforded by the somewhat remote location; a negative in that you must take a taxi, car or hotel shuttle to see the sights, get to restaurants, walk the city streets.

Upon arrival we were shown to a large sea view room on the third floor that had hideously stained carpets throughout, nicked furniture (including the toilet seat), and French doors leading to the balconies that must have been from the original 19th century structure as they did not close all the way, and the tears in the carpet beneath the doors attested to the struggles that previous guests must have had attempting to close them. When they were closed, there were gaps large enough to poke a finger through. We immediately requested a change of rooms, and the same Concierge who had taken our reservation days earlier, relocated us to a smaller, but very nice room in a different wing of the hotel.

The public areas of the hotel were grand, though a bit faded, including a lovely indoor/outdoor dining room that served an impressive and elegant breakfast; an evocative bar/lounge area; and a café in the garden/pool area. All three overlooked the Bay of Palermo and Palermo’s harbor. However, the hotel is clearly in need of a great deal of updating and maintenance: in addition to the issues in the first room we were offered, other parts of the hotel such as the balconies we saw, were in need of paint and even structural work; and the air conditioning, which ceased functioning throughout the hotel for several hours, likely in need of a complete overall.

The service, however -- particularly the service provided by two of the Concierges, Ignacio and Phillip (?) who assisted us with a variety of requests --was excellent.

Last, a word about Palermo. If you enjoy a vibrant city with great neighborhoods (albeit, generally plied with garbage), frenetic drivers, fantastic walking, seeing, and eating, Palermo should be on your itinerary. And, it also has one of the truly must see tourist attractions of Italy: the Cappella Palatina, located in the Palazzo Normanni.

Stayed for a week and enjoyed it. The room didn't have a sea view but was on the ground floor with doors to a seating area outside. Fortunately is was possible to sleep without needing the air conditioning which was very noisy. Staff were pleasant and helpful and while prices are a bit steep (e9.50 for a bottle of peroni) we ate in the hotel on a number of nights as the food was excellent. Hotel operates a courtesy mini-bus to and from the city centre at various points duting the day which is a better option than taking a car as navigating is a bit hit-and-miss. However it is quite a big city and taxis may be favoured by visitors who don't want to walk too far. Very nice grounds running along the low cliff edge with views over the marina

What a beautiful hotel this is. When you walk around in the various halls and rooms, you see portrets of famous guests, among them the former king of Greece and meglia. The room is grand, the bed (boxspring) is a bit hard but OK. The airconditioning is loud, and blows directly over the bed, which is not nice. We had to let it work all the time, most of the days it was abt 30 degr. C.
There is a wonderfull outside terrace, also one by the swimming pool, amazing views over the bay towards the old city.
Negative were the prices. For a hamburger 24, for a glass of wine, 8, and a complete dinner costs more then 200. Also the prices of the minibar are far too high. Negative also is the extreme high price if WiFi, because we both have an iPad we paid twice 9 @ a day, 90 @ for 5 days! We have been in many hotels in Europe and the most have free WiFi.
Taxi to town, there is a shuttle, but it doesn't function well, especcially on the way back. Taxifares: cheapest was 12, the highest was 30! Never accept the meter, allways try a fixed price of max 20.
Traffic in Palermo is a disaster, but we managed the keep our hired car undamaged.
OK, breakfast is delicious, various fresh drinks, champagne, lots of sweets, you ask, you get.
The meals in the restaurant were good, but not fantastic. The chateaubriand a bit dry, little contorni, wine very expensive, though beautiful wines.
Tip for the pranzo ( lunch) when you have it outside at the pool: take just one and share it.
No welness or fitness.

Room Tip: take a room at the seaside
