Description: The idea of a “Social Restaurant” in Palermo comes from our wish to merge local elements of Food, Art, Music and Fashion with more open ideas of the whole world. Social is our way of living, sharing our ideas with different cultures, let our guests feeling at home, relaxed, comfortable, at ease and pleasantly pampered. We are in love of Sicily and we try to let people feel it through the food, that now, more than ever before is strictly linked to our territory thanks to a recent cooperation with a "star Chef" who gave his personal touch to our cooking.Symbolic element of our restaurant is the social table where people of different nationalities can share the experience of a Dinner in Gagini Restaurant. Harmony and communication are the elements that characterize this space. And if you desire something different from a “Social Dinner” don’t miss our romantic and perfect tables for a Dinner for two or for a group of friends, family and affair. Our Maxim : Passion and hard work…in a Social way!

“Cool, fulfilling evening”

We arrived at Gagini on spec, fully not expecting them to seat us considering the reviews. However, they found an excellent table for us. The space was great - full of Scicilian community and old school charm, mixed with eclectic decor and waiting staff with fantastic moustaches.

Prosecco (or Spumante) on arrival and an amuse bouche which I can still remember vividly now both set the scene for an epic evening. Service was so attentive given how busy they were, and they were very patient with our pidgin (or is that pitiful...?) Italian.

Primi and Secundi were a joy. And then, dessert - a positive assault on the senses!

Full of surprises this place - definitely worth seeking out.

The restaurant came recommended, but we were disappointed. Two waiters got into an argument regarding which table to give us (we had booked beforehand). The winning waiter gave us a free glass of prosecco, which was nice, and he was polite and helpful.

However, the food was over-fussy, the presentation pretentious, and the flavours peculiarly bland. Everything was sort of nutty, there was no acid (lemon/wine/vinegar etc) in anything. All in all a culinary disappointment.

In addition, several tables had a glass topping, which looks nice but is very unpleasant for women who wear short sleeves. This may be fine in summer, but it is very cold and uncomfortable in the cooler months.
We will not be back.

Dear Madam,

thank you for your feedback, even if you had a bad opinion...
As for your table, probably since it was not the only reserved table, waiters had to understand which was the one they had booked for you. Sorry if you had the impression that they got into an argument
They are all kind, and the glass with "spumante" is our way to welcome all our guests.
About food we are very sorry, the presentation is pretentious because there is a long study behind any course. You say that there was no acid (I don't really understand very well what you meant) but it is true that we strongly believe in the simple flavours, always fresh fish and meat , well prepared and cooked by our Chef, bread and dessert cooked in our kitchen and so on.

About tables ... sorry but we are proud of them; they have been created by an Austrian Artist, leaving in Palermo, who won exactly with these tables an important award in Modern art exhibition in Venice this year... Sorry but, we are very proud of these tables, we choose the different colours of the sea to cover them and we colud never cover them with traditional tableclothes...

Thank you again, we will take care of your opinion,

Kind regards,
Stefania Milano

“Top pick”

By some way the best of the restaurants we visited in Palermo, Gagini is in a side-street in the old centre of Palermo close to the marina. Young, enthusiastic staff, a friendly but not over-effusive welcome, interesting and well-executed regional food; clientele with its fair share of foreign tourists, predictably for this area of the city, but also a decent local trade, so Gagini has not sold its soul to tourism, as many of the nearby restaurants have. It's a pretty place, quirkily furnished, and has some outside tables (book ahead for these in season), around the corner from the evening bar scene.

“Warm and romantic.”

This restaurant was the best recommendation of our stay in Palermo. The staff was attentive and friendly, the Owner most gracious and the food was delightful.
We discovered that evening, of the next day's cooking course and immediately signed up.
Experiencing it all - back of house and front of house; we recommend Gagini as a "must".

“Fine dining in Palermo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

Normally, there are plenty of restaurants in Italian cities, but -- for whatever reason -- we didn't find ourselves stumbling across good eating options. So, after a recommendation, we were delighted to find Gagini, which is more of a gourmet than family eating or tourist restaurant, we were happy to find. The portions were manageable, rather than the huge mountains of pasta at more regular restaurants. The food was delicate and subtle. We started with a soup of shrimp and celeriac and a "sandwich" of triglia fish (red mullet), aubergine, and creamed green cauliflower (broccolo -- seen all the markets). Both were subtle and perfectly prepared and presented. Then came gnocchi with octopus and finally lamb cutlets. We shared a delicious bottle of Nero D'Avola. This is is not Michelin star cuisine, but it's still a special place in Palermo. The service we experienced was excellent and helpful, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and atmospheric
