Great hotel! Close to train and restaurants. Very clean and roomy! A great value for the cost. Note that hotel is on the 2nd floor and there is not a lift so be prepared to tote your luggage upstairs. I would stay here again.

what a beautiful place, in an old building in central Palermo with most of the features in tact vaulted ceilings etc but with all mod conns including heated towel rails and a Bidet. Bargain proved luxury is not an exaggeration. we booked through air bnb and when we saw the room/suite there is no exaggeration or photo shop in the pictures. and the hostess was delightful and m,pst helpful. no lift but it is 2 floors and they advise that anyway, the bed is most comfortable and the area is quiet. a real Italian experience when you look out the window and see the history surrounding you. the suite has a double and a single bed

Room Tip: if walking up stairs is no problem, you cant go wrong here

Even if you have lots of money to go and stay in a 5 star hotel dont bother, go here. Its exactly what I imagined Sicily to be. Its relaxed and I had the best sleep ever.
Its never to important how a place looks, its import how it makes you feel, mind you it looks great as well.
Everything functions very well and the owners are calm and cool.
If you are searching the net looking for a nice place to stay in Palermo........stop now and go ahead and book it (-:

Room Tip: just let the owners do that...........they are really cool

Stayed Sep-Oct 2012.

Firstly, we found proprietors Francesco and Francesca to be very friendly and helpful.

We must issue a warning right away. B&B White is on the 2nd floor, and there is NO LIFT. We recommend that anyone who has problems with climbing stairs should find an alternative hotel. There are 4 flights of steep, decaying marble stairs, each of about 10 steps, leading up from a very dilapidated entrance hall. These are not actually part of B&B. Once you reach B&B White, it is a quite different picture, as this part of the building has been very well and pleasantly refurbished.

We arrived well after 21:00, and, for our first night, we were transferred to another hotel round the corner because there was “a problem with the water in the bathroom”. Well, it was fixed by 10:00 the next morning when we transferred back, somewhat reluctantly because the other hotel (Dimora Annulina) had a lift.

We can only speak about Room 1, as we did not see the inside of the other rooms, except for a brief visit to the room next door, which was a little nicer than ours. Our room was quite small but well equipped, and the fairly spacious bathroom was nicely presented with a full 4-piece suite. However, being a rather wide person, the entrance to the shower cubicle was tight, and some larger people could find it really difficult. There is a stocked mini fridge, a useful small safe, and a TV on which we could find no English language channels at all. The air-conditioning works well.

Breakfast is served for up to 4 persons in the small reception area, and for a further 3 in the hallway of the lower mezzanine floor, down 3 slightly alarming steps. It is somewhat cramped. Breakfast itself consists of a choice of juices, various styles of coffee, rolls, jams, croissants, cereals served in teacups (!), and various cakes. There seems to be no variation in what is offered, except that, on one occasion, there were some yogurts. Another reviewer has mentioned fruit, but we never saw any. A little variation would not go amiss, and the provision of tea & coffee facilities in the reception area in the evening would also be welcome.

Comments have been made about noise. The street outside is a busy, noisy place during the day, but as practically everything in the area closes around 21:30, the street becomes very quiet quite early. Within the B&B, however, there are issues. Certainly the walls between Room 1 and next-door are paper thin, so flushing toilets, showers, voices, etc, can be disturbing. The family living upstairs can be heavy-footed, but as there are young children involved, this quietens down early in the evening. Other guest arriving back late at night, slamming doors, and holding lengthy, loud conversations in the reception area we found very disturbing, and rather inconsiderate. The proprietors need to give some serious consideration to improving the sound insulation.

Having said all this, we have to bear in mind the fact that this is some of the cheapest accommodation in Palermo, and it is clean and reasonably comfortable. As such, it has to score well on value for money, even though, with hindsight, we would have spent a little more for somewhere with a lift.

B&B White is situated close to the nexus for all of the transport in Palermo – less than 100 metres from the train station and the long-distance bus station. Most of the local buses stop nearby, and the train station is also well supplied with taxis. However, this part of Palermo is not for the faint-hearted. It is the least salubrious part of town, and attracts many vagrants and poorer migrants, as well as a fair share of “ladies of the night”. The authorities seem to pay less attention to the cleanliness of this area than elsewhere; the streets are full of litter and piles of rubbish, and even the cops just throw empty fag packets out of the car window. But it is here, and the nearby Via Marqueda area, where you can see the real Palermo, with street markets that have barely changed in 1000 years, full of ordinary Sicilians going about their daily business, rather than in the posh, insulated areas like the Via della Libertà, with its Gucci, Vuitton & Prada shops and expensive restaurants.

Eating out in Palermo was a revelation. Even the most basic bars and cafés served delicious snacks, and many ordinary side-street trattorias provided food at least as good as any expensive Italian restaurant in London’s West End, if not better. And at very reasonable prices. Special commendations go to Trattoria Trapani, Piazza Giulio Cesare, 16, whose owner speaks excellent English (try the filetto di pollo), and to the Ristorante Ferrara at Piazza Giulio Cesare 46, on the corner of the Via Francesco Maurolico to the far side of the station. If you like anchovies, their Pizza Napoli is simply the best. Or try the beautiful spaghetti with swordfish pieces in cream infused with basil. Neither establishment is expensive, but you will be hard-pressed to find better food anywhere else.

Sadly, we cannot recommend B&B White because of the stairs, the lack of sound insulation, and the unsavouriness of the location.

If you are looking for a convenient no frills B & B in the heart of Palermo then this is the place for you. Only a stone's throw from the railway station (for easy transportation to the airport or Trapani / Messina) B & B White offers good sized, and very clean, rooms in a characterful old apartment building. Our room was en-suite and tastefully furnished with all the mod cons (safe, tv, air con). While this may not be a 4 star hotel, if you are travelling on a budget then B & B Whites offers excellent value for money. The only disappointment was the rather poor offerings for breakfast, but if you are happy to forgo the convenience of a 24 hour reception/concierge and a good breakfast then I heartily recommend it...

Very convenient localization for persons who want to take trips from Palermo to other places (minutes from the train and bus station). Beautiful appartment, clean and with spacious rooms, certainly with the atmosphere (frescos on the ceilings!). Helpful and nice personnel. Friendly neighbors of multicultural origin. And apparently most famous icecream shop just around the corner!
