“Hop on Hop off a joke!”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

Having been impressed with the Hop on Hop off service in Athens, Paris and Budapest we wrongly assumed that the best way to see the sites in Palermo was this service. How wrong we were!
The service runs on two routes A & B. A running from 10.00am until 13.00 and B running from 13.30 until 14.30. This timetabling and the trafic congestion in Palermo gives little or no time to Hop on Hop off at more than one point on each of the circuits .
For this service the cost of 20Euro each is totally out of order.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy our tour, but I’d like to underline some points. From 1st of April to 4th of November, line A makes 16 departures from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (frequency: every 30 minutes), line B makes 5 departures (2 – 2.40 – 3.20 – 4.00 – 5.00 in the afternoon); besides from 1st of July to 15th of September at 6 p.m., there is an additional departure of the line A (therefore there are 17 departures of the line A). Instead from 5th of November, line A makes 7 departures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (frequency: every 30 minutes) and line B makes 2 departures (1.30 - 2.30 in the afternoon), as you can easily see in the timetable of the “Palermo City Sightseeing” brochure (given to anyone who asks for it and available on our web site); unfortunately our service must be decreased in low season because there are few tourists.
Hoping that you can do a more enjoyable tour the next time,
Best Regards.

“City tour bus was just the job!”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

We declined the cruise ship tour because it was very expensive whilst the City Tour bus, of the kind you see in most British cities and in Rome, Naples and many more places I expect, was just the job for us! There was some delay because of a protest but that wasn't their fault, the world recession has clearly had a big impact here so we could understand why it was happening. The city is so very beautiful with an abundance of great art and architecture, much of it is however faded splendour, but it was good to see work being done on the many beautiful parks. The bus commentary was interesting, informative and amusing in places. The traffic was a sight to behold but to us at least a fascinating one! It was like watching a computer games with all the motorbikes competing for places and certainly winning over the rest of the traffic ha ha. Not all cultures are the same (thank goodness!) and this one for all its lack of money was a vibrant one. We found the people to be friendly and helpful and I would love to go back there for a holiday. The City Tour Bus cost 22 euros each and was, we thought, good value considering you could hop on and off and was valid for 24 hours! Just the job for us who spent a few hours there and a fraction of the cost of the cruise line price!

“Walk, don't ride.”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

We like to walk but decided to do the bus tour to be sure we hadn't missed anything. I can't say it was worth it but if you wanted to ride / get off / ride again I suppose it would be an ok way of doing it. Now a note to the stupid tourists: Don't video the whole route because your arm is in the way of everyone sitting behind you and Don't stand up. There was an inconceivably rude woman on our tour who insisted on standing even though she had been politely asked by the bus staff several times to sit. We finally said "throw her off". Show some consideration people - this isn't a private tour & if that's what you wanted, pay for it and get off the bus. Otherwise, be polite to your fellow riders. City Sightseeing - next time someone stands up, boot their butts off the bus!!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am sorry for the fact that you describe in your review. But the bus staff several times tried to blame the rude passenger. Our staff always aims to provide the best support to every single tourist. It is delightful to know that tourists appreciate the beauties of Palermo, also thanks to our work. Therefore I don’t consider to deserve a low score about our service, because of a rude passenger who did not show the respect for others under those circumstances.
Best Regards.

“Not much to really see”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This was a cruise port and frankly they should eliminate the port call. There is not much to see in Palermo and the traffic was horrific with no regard to any traffic laws, especially by the numerous motorbikes

“OK - but not much more”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

The buses did not exactly run on the announced schedule, but we could live with that given the Palermo traffic. Another point of improvement is the fact that they only accepted cash - no credit or debit cards and the tickets were fairly expensive. Finally, our main complaint was that they give the impression of a 24 hour service whereas as it only took place during normal working hours (incl. Saturday and Sunday).

The tour itself was OK in order to get an overview of Palermo.

Dear customer,
thanks for your review: our client observations are very useful for us to improve the service.
Unfortunately, Palermo traffic jam sometimes causes delays but the responsibility for what happens in the city is not ours. We actually feel bad when we receive complaints from our customers because of the traffic.
As for the payment, we are checking the impact of other payment systems with our organization, in order to introduce the use of credit cards.
Regarding your main complaint, I am afraid I don’t agree with your statement when you write: “… they give the impression of a 24 hour service whereas as it only took place during normal working hours (incl. Saturday and Sunday)…”.
We advertise that the ticket is valid 24 hours when you hop on the bus for the first time.
We also advertise the timetable in many ways including: website, mobile phone app for Android and iPhone, bus stops, and brochures that we give to all our customers. In addition to this our hostesses, before selling tickets, clearly communicate the schedule of the service that takes place without breaks in peak seasons from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm.
Experience has shown us that after 7 pm we do not have requests; therefore, for economical reasons, the service cannot be extended.
We have no intention to deceive or take advantage of people, and to be totally honest, no one ever expressed any doubt about it (this is our 8 years).
Hopefully in the future, better conditions will let our service to be carried out also at night time and we hope to have you back with us to show you Palermo at night.

Best Regards,
F. Alessandro
