“a very good choice”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

We found this hotel very comfortable and well mantained. Rooms are nice and well equipped though a bit small but with a huge bathroom. Breakfast was fine and above all, the staff was very kind and helped us a lot before and during our stay. They saved us a lot of money by telling about the bus from the airport which stops in front of the hotel. most convenient. The location is good as a start to visit Palermo and all we needed was nearby thus saved us a lot of time. Highly recommended.

The hotel was well located, being right in the centre of town close to bus stops and attractions. We took a bus from the airport and left on a bus to the railway station. The hop-on bus stopped just nearby. The room was clean and light. The shower was a disappointment as it was hand held and the recess narrow. The breakfast was OK but the coffee awful. The staircase was magnificent, staff friendly and helpful.

Really comfortable hotel in very central location. We had a superior room (402) at the front and yes, there was street noise, but after the first night, it didn't bother us! The room was spacious, beds comfortable, bathroom good, apart from the hairdryer! We were there for the week and I have to say the cheeriest people were the cleaners, I guess the reception staff aren't used to folk staying longer than a couple of nights. Helpful but not forthcoming, then again I don't speak Italian. There are great restaurants nearby, head to the Massimo area for lively but stay within a few streets for great food and service. Bus to Mondello beach is a couple of minutes walk away and the tour bus stops at the hotel. Worth taking the two city trips to get an idea of the layout.

Room Tip: I loved to stand outside and look at the world go by so a balcony on the front is ideal, but if you...

Well situated within walking distance of most of the main attractions and with many restaurants and cafes nearby, this is a modern hotel in an old building, the furnishings are minimalist but comfortable. Staff very efficient and helpful.

We visited here end April/start May 2014, stayed in Room 308.
Like other reviewers, my opinion is that this hotel could be so much better. The room had not even one drawer in it - just 2 shelves in a large cupboard where you could hang clothes. We booked for 9 days, so had quite a lot of clothes - drawers are essential, not just a nice added feature! The room contained two double beds, pushed together, two hard metal upright chairs and a counter top/desk. Oh! yes - there was a TV which showed no English or American channels and a fridge full of booze. There were no sachets of instant coffee, just flavored teas, so the kettle went unused. A cup of coffee when you first wake up is always welcome, but not possible here. But no armchair, which I would have thought essential in a 4 star hotel. There would have been room for a drawer unit and an armchair if the beds hadn't taken up so much room - and 308 is a large room.

Room 308 is high up on a back corner - you cannot get away from the street noise! The advertised air conditioning isn't - you can set a higher temperature than the ambient temperature, but you cannot cool down the room. So we slept with the windows and shutters open - bad mistake, as the mosquitoes got to us. And, boy, do I still itch, 5 days later. We bought a can of Raid and sprayed the room each night before we went to bed, but it made little difference.

The bathroom was good and the shower got hot after you had run it for 5 minutes. Our Wi-Fi reception was excellent, except that they changed the user name and password every day - which was a nuisance.

As one other reviewer said, the "exciting American bar" was never open while we were there. Breakfasts were terribly unimaginative and boring. Parking is very limited and you have to leave your keys with Reception so that they can shuffle cars around for other guests to get out.

There was no information in our room about the features the hotel had to offer. The was no rack of tourist attraction leaflets in reception, although they were able to offer us a map of the city. Generally the Reception staff tried to be helpful, except when we attempted to cut short our stay so that we could move to Siracusa for the last four days. No refund was allowed. So we went away for 2 days anyway, paying for another hotel there (Gran Bretagna, who were very helpful and provided a comfortable stay in a lovely city).

I cannot recommend Palermo as a city to visit. Yes, there are many interesting/historic buildings to visit, and the hotel is ideally located by the hop on/hop off bus stop, which is excellent value for money. But driving is a nightmare! I do not know how we managed to get the car back to the airport without any bumps or scratches. Lane discipline is non existent, double parking - even on pedestrian crossings - is standard. Scooters are everywhere, zig-zagging through the traffic jams - I shudder at the memory of it all. If you are a nervous driver, Palermo is not for you.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room BEFORE you unpack - they are prepared to change it if it does not suit you.

Positives:
Good service
Great location. It was an easy walk to many major monuments and the bus stop.
Provides parking
Rooms are spacious
Comfortable bed

Negatives:
Rooms had very industrial decor.
Windows were thin so you can hear street noise
Walls were thin
Wi-fi was unreliable in our room
The sofa smelled like bug spray
Breakfast was terrible even worst than typical continental breakfast. Only good thing was it was free

Room Tip: Get a room on corner with less neighbors and higher away from street noise.

There are many good things about this hotel : the location, the spacious and quiet room, the parking included in the room price, the staff.
Upon arrival, we had to ask for a room change because of a persistent tobacco smell. There was no problem at the front desk and a new room was immediately made available to us. The breakfast needs to be seriously improved : no fresh coffee, fruits were not always available... pastries were good though. I recommend this hotel but you might want to eat your breakfast somewhere else!
