We found the trattoria by accident and decided to go there, because we thought it looked nice and cozy. Unfortunately we didn’t have a very good experience that night… The prices were a little higher than average, the portions of pasta were small for the price, they didn’t even bother to cut our salad properly and my steak came in late, which meant that my friends had almost finished their meal, and then I even had to return it, because it was way too red inside…

Plus points: very close to our hotel after a day walking around Monreale and enduring long waits and sweltering journeys on Palermo's bus system; very helpful, likable, English speaking waiter.
Negatives: probably the poorest and yet most expensive meal so far in Palermo (see my other reviews); Sicilian antipasto was humdrum and not a patch on what we ate at Frida; Caprese salad portion on the small side; all wines priced at 25e and while the wine proposed by the waiter was nice enough, you could perhaps have paid 30% less elsewhere; escalope al Marsala was not as tender and as tasty as might be expected, much the same as could be said for the steak with mushrooms - the steak was the size of a child's fist and not that appealing to the eye either; and finally, and most importantly, we were only informed when the bill was presented that their credit card machine was broken. Fortunately, and surprisingly as we don't like carrying too much cash around, we just about had enough.
On balance, it's probably a typical neighborhood trattoria, but you can do so much better in Palermo - we should have walked 5 minutes in the other direction and have gone to Cucina Papoff or even Volo yet again.
(btw, tripadvisor seem to list this restaurant twice - as Al Cancellatto with and without the Verde, with different ratings!)

It was our first stay in Palermo, so we didn't knew much about restaurants there. So we asked the receptionist at the hotel and she recommended this restaurant to us. We couldn't have chose a better restaurant! Everything was simply divine..... the food was excellent. The owner and all the staff are so friendly that you feel very welcome .Excellent restaurant..... keep up the good work Angelo and team :)

We are a family of four from Belgium and visited this restaurant for the first time as it was recommended to us by hotel Garibaldi which is actually just around the corner. It was a great suggestion, where typical Sicilian food which tastes great is combined with excellent hospitality and friendly waiters doing there very best to address foreigners in English. Not a tourist trap at all! Best proof is that we came back the next evening... Try the gamberoni grigliata or the pesce spada alla ghiotta with the superdelicious caponate as a contorno. Don't forget to finish your meal with their homemade tiramisu or sorbet... Many Italian celebrities seem to like the place too judging from the photographs decorating the walls of this trattoria.
