“A bit pricey - but special!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

What a great old place. Feels like it's been there for years. Go right through to the back for antique mirors and seating. Not a good place to go if you're watching the calories - what an array of pastries! Aperatives look v. pricey, but the accompanying "Spuntino" are well worth the mark up. They package your cakes to go beautifully as well..!!

“A very good all-rounder for breakfast, lunch, pasticceria and aperitivi.”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

The artisan ice creams are very, very good. Spinnato's bakers and pastry chefs have subtle but appealing decorative talents. As Halloween is approaching at the time of writing, while we were there they brought out a tray of pan di Spagna cakes filled with their signature creams and decorated to look like pumpkins on the vine (cute, rather than spooky).

The lunch menu changes daily, is seasonal, quite varied and is very well executed. Some local dishes do stand out (swordfish involtini with orange, fennel and olives) but all have been full of flavour and very satisfying - even their lasagne are special and that's one of the recipes most people mangle. Portions are not huge.

The snack bar offers very good snacks, like the papillon with aubergines, prosciutto cotto and mozzarella. The arancine are crisp, well-seasoned and come with some great fillings (funghi, ragú, or smoked salmon). The most traditional (butter) is luscious and full of flavour, but best left to those who have given up on their waistline altogether.

The patisserie is a delight. The marzipan fruit are fresh, fragrant and lovely to look at (pricy at €45 per kilo, but the ingredients are of good quality). The wild strawberry and whipped cream log is a wonderful treat. There's good food to go to be bought from the patisserie.

Service is professional, a little curt. Speaking fluent Italian helps, as ever.
Decor is fairly polished, lots of mirrors, wood panels, comfortable indoor seating.
We'll keep going back. (They have other outlets, but note that if you're looking them up in Lonely Planet -Sicily, the authors/researches botched the entry: there is no Spinnato "take-away".

“A taste of Sicily”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

Arrived in Palermo today. Checked in and the first thing we wanted was authentic Sicilian Pizza. The grand Wagner hotel recommended Spinnato. The pizza was amazing. Light crust, delicious cheese and just enough toppings. It was al so fresh and good we went back in the evening for gelati and pastries and were equally pleased.
