Stopped in for lunch hoping to go back for dinner (not realizing they weren't open for dinner). Food was great - worth finding the restaurant, for sure! If I was going to be there again, I would have a late big lunch and plan to have a light dinner, and try the fish and the pasta (both).

We were recommended Zia Pina for lunch by two locals we met at the airport while waiting for our delayed flight into Palermo. We fortunately were staying near the Vucciria neighborhood, and we were only a 10 minute walk from the restaurant. Walking through the rustic neighboorhood leading to the restaurant was half the fun. Everything you imagine Palermo to be, is in this neighborhood. As we finally stumbled upon the restaurant, we were greeted by the friendly owner and ushered to an outdooor table. In a group of 4, we were 3 girls and one guy. I sat at the end of the table, facing the street, and as soon as the owner had laid down our table cloth, he immediately took my purse, which I had hanging on the end of my chair, and moved it to a chair next to my friend who was sitting on the sidewalk side (as to not have it stolen by passerbyers). He promptly brought over a liter of the house wine, and indicated for us to walk to the open air kitchen and make up plates of a buffet of traditional antipasti. We made two plates for our table of stuffed mushrooms and peppers, grilled zucchine and eggplant and seafood galore. For our meals, we all ordered pasta with seafood. There is no menu, as it is a traditional osteria of Sicily. Across the street, a daytime game of cards was being played by locals, as somehting right out of the movies. We only paid 15 euro a person, which included TWO liters of house wine, two bottles of water, an array of antipasti and 4 first courses. I would DEFINITELY reocmmend this restaurant for a lunch that you will never forget in an authentic Palermo setting. I would definitely go back!

Average food, not cooked by a 'mama'. The cook is from Bangladesh! Overpriced for level of service and quality of food. Make sure to ask price before you order - there is no written menu.
They tried to charge me 25 euro for antipasti, fish and spaghetti, no wine. Way too much.
Head outside the centro historico for better food!

Nearby the Cala area, within Vucciria neighborough, just in front of the port in this little street in the heart of Palermo you'll find this precious and hidden gem. Truly palermitan in his food and in his atmosphere, this place is beloved by locals and often a freak street performer (art name: SANDOKAN) uses to delight clients with his very funny and non sense acting!! UNIQUELY FREAKY! Fish is fresh and bought at the market open from early mornig and located just 2 minutes walk from the restaurant. The restaurant is actually Zia Pina's living room since ages (at least 15 years). Eating in there is like being hosted by a local who cooks amazing dishes and loves to interact with customers. Food is abundant (you can have as much starters as you want not paying a lot), high quality (ALWAYS fresh) and cooked in front of you so I wouldn't consider this place expensive. Also, bill can change depending on the weight of fish you have as a main course. Open lunch time, but MAKE SURE YOU'LL BE THERE AT 1 pm ish to be seated. If you get there later on you may not find any fresh fish!!! Briefly, if you want to know how sicilians love cooking and people, this must be the place!!!!

What a pity to be allergic for a fish, if going into place like this! Seafood was majority, but countless antipasto's and all kind of pasta's widely available in a pots and pans. Oh, those zucchinis and eggplants!

If you like genuine Palermitan atmosphere, no frills, go for it!
