“Midday fun”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

It's a great show before lunch - and it goes on and on.

Town clocks can be big news for cities, and capital cities in particular ( I'm thinking of Berne, Moscow and Prague,) Italian cities and towns are more likely to be proud of their campinile - think Venice, Florence and Siena.

Messina is the most wonderful town clock I've seen or heard of. Great fun.

“Good show”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

We visited the clock on our second visit to Messina aboard the Carnival Breeze. On our first visit, we went to Taormina for a swim and to visit the charming town. This would still be my first choice (visit Taormina) and I would not rush back for the noon show. However, since we had already visited Taormina, this was a nice thing to do while visiting Messina. The astronomical clock in Venice is still my favourite. We enjoyed our morning on the ship and then ventured out for the noon show followed by some Sicilian pizza and cannoli.

“Wonderful midday show”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We made sure we were back from our tour to Taormina to see this clock put on the show at 12 noon. It is a great astonomical clock and is worth seeing and hearing. The lion roars and the rooster crows. Ave Maria is played and the figures start rotating but very slowly. I was abit disappointed as I thought more of them would move around (perhaps they were broken) but still it was worth standing in the square with the sun beating down to see this. If you are in Messina then you have to see this at midday.

“Be there at noon”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

Our tour guide got us back to the square at 11:59, just in time for the show to start. The show is 12 minutes and it's amazing how each part of the bell tower moves. It's quite a site

“This is a one of its kind”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

It’s such a shame that this wonderful clock tower only gives its full animated display once a day at 12:00. From the actual clock at the top of the tower, there are many layers of displays that will leave you breathless as you try to take in everything that is happening. Stand well back to make sure you see it all. If you miss the ‘show’ it’s still a beautiful click tower to see, and set in a lovely square. From the same square you can take one of the little ‘road trains’ for Euros 10 each, and you will get a good look around the city with a guide who gives you a commentary as you go along. It can be a bit bumpy, but great value. The trip takes about an hour.
