“Great central location”
Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

This B&B is fantastically situated right in the centre of town, near the main market area and the central square. The rooms are really well decorated and it has a bath which seems to be a rarity. The wifi is also free and strong. Like a lion in the savannah. However the main let downs are the lack of pillows and the low ceiling. But if you are under 5ft tall then that's fine. The staff are knowledgable and speak good English. Of course it would have been polite for me to have learnt Italian properly, but then I'm a British tourist, people are just thankful that I'm not smashing the place up in a lager-fuelled football rage. Best not to stay here if you're a vegan, the breakfast is coffee and croissant, and the Italians still have a weird obsession with drinking another creature's breast milk. All in all though, a lovely hotel.

Stayed here for 4 days whilst in Catania.

Pros:-

* Excellent location - literally a stones throw from Piazza Duomo, market and lots of shops & restaurants
* Great rooms - clean, spacious, high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, original artwork on wall
* Friendly staff & will help out with info when needed
* Small roof terrace (shared) if you want to sit outside
* Great free wifi!

Cons: -

* This should be advertised as "Room Only" as the coupon to get breakfast (restaurant by the market) only allows you a pastry and a coffee. Please note: the people at the restaurant do not speak English at all.
* You will get noise from the street if you have your balcony window open (in summer), but that's the trade off for being in a great location.
* We found the shower in our room rather cramped (and we're slim). Not sure if other rooms have larger showers.
* Reception isn't always staffed, but you can get hold of someone on the phone if you really need.
* Hotel is on the second floor of the apartment block, so if you don't like climbing a few flights of steps due to age or ill health, this won't be for you.

All in all, I'd thoroughly recommend the place. Lots of character about the place and, as mentioned, a superb location.

If you do stay here, check out the following SUPERB places to eat: -

* Pizza place in Via Bondi (if I remember) [10mins walk] - there's a flyer for it in reception. Walk along Via Etnea > Via Antonino di Sangiuliano > Via Bondi. Too many pizzas to choose from and they even gave us a menu in English. "The Playa" was THE best pizza I've ever had!

* "Tale" restaurant (off Via Rabbordone) [10 mins walk] - Walk along Via Etnea > Via Vittorio Emanuele II > Via Rabbordone. Posh looking place and posh service...but not a "posh" price! We had meal for two with wine for around €40. The pizza bread is to die for and the swordfish pasta was awesome!

* Small "pub" restaurant - side road off Via Etnea [5mins walk] ...can't for the life of me remember the road or name of the place, but you'll recognize it by the massive tree that provide lots of shade just outside the place. No menu in English but very friendly waitress will help out. Good food and very reasonable prices.

Hope that helps someone and feel free to drop me a message if you need further info. :)

We stayed at Bad for 4 days and we thought it was a great B&B, our hotel host was very nice, gave us a map of Catania, showed us what to see and where to go. Our room was very spacious we had a private bathroom which was great since we thought the bathroom would be seperate.
This hotel is close to EVERYTHING! To the centre, the fish market and to public transport which is extremely helpful to move around and see more of what Sicily has to offer.
You get coupons for breakfast which is found at a cafe which is open 24/7 about 1 minute from Bad, a coffee and croissant which is a great way to start the day.
Our Italian is very very bad, therefore I recommend learning the basics, it helps since not many people speak English (or french) but everyone in general is helpful and nice.
We went in January which is obviously winter therefore not many things were open and we were alone in ALL the touristic places which can be a bit weird and scary from some.
It is probably more lively in summer.

Room Tip: If you want your own private bathroom, maybe specify for it

Being in the south of Italy and finding the creative experience of contemporary art and deco design forniture without loosing sicilian flavour in this B&b really centrally located.
Staff are nice and gave us alternative itinerary of The City, including delicious restaurants. A few step away The pescheria market that you won't miss it. Homemade breakfast and friendly atmosphere gave us the opportunity to spent a fantastic week-end. Perfect for couple and for people who wants to live Sicily as a creative traveller and not being a boring turist. If you want to find a negative point, just say no lift but does it worth to see The panoramic view of Catania's roofs. Low price for high standard vacation.

Room Tip: Choose Mao deco room

We very appreciated the service and hospitality, which we hardly found @ other places in sicily! This B&B is perfect for young people/families who are looking for something "out of routine" - the cosy terrace enables a beautiful view over the roofs.

I really like quirky places and this simple B&B had a really cool image. Our room had a fab design of Jimi Hendrix, a double bed, a TV, free Wi-Fi in the room (a massive plus), and air-con. We only stayed one night just before heading to the airport so it served its purpose perfectly, being really close to the city centre (2-minute walk). A few cons though: they say breakfast is included but this is in fact a voucher for a coffee and a pastry in a nearby (dodgy-looking) 24-hour cafe. We went in and had our freebies, but were unimpressed. When the hotel asks you for your arrival time, they need the exact time. We were driving around on the day so we said we'd be there by 7pm (thinking they wanted to know so that we wouldn't show up after reception closed). However, when we showed up at 5.30pm we had to ring them and someone came in 15 minutes later to let us in. I felt bad not having known that this would be the case - otherwise I would have been more exact. Also some of the rooms (including the one we stayed in) are in a different building (not the one that has the reception), which may be a bit weird.

I did like their concept and the room was perfectly decent, I just wish they'd drop the "breakfast" and charge less, and also maybe make it more clear that staff is not available at all times.

Really hard and uncomfortable bed and the deco is not as cool as it thinks it is.

Staff are nice.

Breakfast is included but is served around the corner at a cafe and is very limited. I would prefer it if you just said that breakfast wasnt included rather than pretending it was.
No lift.

Near the port and the fish market.

Not that impressed with the town Catania either. Western Sicily towns like Sciacca and Marsala are much nicer.
