When we arrived straight from the airport we were warmly welcomed by the wonderful staff (and the cooling air-con). When we entered our room it took our breath away... four-poster bed, beautiful high ceiling, great balcony view to the sea and loads of room!

Great breakfast, lovely terrace bar and sun terrace on the room for bathing or sitting in the jacuzzi (with a stunning view of the city). The location is perfect for making the most of Catania and there is the most beautiful street right on your doorstep!

The staff will make you feel at home and as amazing as the rooms are they are the highlight of the hotel! You couldn't ask for more. A brilliant place to stay that I can't recommend enough.

We really enjoyed our stay here. All the staff were excellent, the breakfast was great and the room was beautiful. We were especially impressed with the large balcony and remote control curtain functions!

We only stayed for one night but the moment we opened the door to the room we were impressed!! The room was amazing, really spacious with a great view out over Catania over to the sea. The hotel staff were really helpful and friendly, even at midnight when we rang to try and book an excursion. On the night we stayed they recommended a pizzeria for us which was nearby and I know we would not have gone there without their help, (it's Pizzeria Coppela, on Via Coppela and is worth a visit).
I can't comment on the restaurant as we were so comfy in the room but if certainly looked impressive. We would definitely book here again only this time staying for longer to take advantage of everything they offer.

Really enjoyed the 4 nights stay at this hotel last week. Both my partner and I thought the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable (Room 205), but the air conditioning was little loud. There was a party in the bar directly below our room one of the nights, but otherwise we had peaceful nights. Would definitely stay again.

I stayed here for 3 nights with a friend and the room was very smartly furnished with plenty of space but, as the Rough Guide says, the lighting is very dim and therefore we found the room rather depressing. The outside terrace is lovely and makes up for the lack of light in the rest of the hotel. Reception staff were charming and very helpful, with excellent English. Catania itself is all right as a place to stay with good transport links but found the bus terminals very confusing!

We planned to stayed in Catania for 3 nights on our tour of the south of Italy, and our choice to stay in Catania, and in this hotel was great. The rooms are funky, fun, and comfortable. The personel are nice, specially the guy on the reception who speaks English, French,Italian all well was really helpful. Too bad we forgot to ask his name.
The only thing it didn't work well was the wireless internet connection in our bedroom, but they send a technician and tried to fix it, so we had to use the wire, but that was fine.
The parking is a bit weird, because you have to drive thru this narrow entrance, and park behind the hotel and share the parking places with a nice and clasicc italian group of apartments. I think since we went in the low season we found parking easily.
In general we liked the hotel, rooms, breakfast (lovely capuccinos), reception personel, and location! The location was great, just walking distance to most restaurants and bars.
We would be back.

Room Tip: Rooms next to the restaurant (first floor)could be noisy because they have parties sometimes.

Just a quick review to say that we had an excellent stay at the Hotel Royal for one night (our first night in Catania). We were greeted by name when we arrived (had never been there before!), likely due to our late arrival -- about 11:15 pm.

Room was smallish but fine for one night. Had some issues with internet (otherwise would have rated 5 stars). Had a wonderful breakfast up on their rooftop restaurant area -- great views of the city. Then walked to the very nearby historical center (don't miss the fish market) and had a marvelous time exploring the sites of the city until noon, when we checked out.

Hotel staff spoke English -- which I was not certain I would find in Sicily. Hotel also assisted in getting us a taxi to take us to the Hertz location near the autostrada (not the airport location).

Should I travel back to Catania, I would most definitely stay at the Hotel Royal again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Royal Hotel is a four star hotel in the centre of Catania with 19 rooms. The rooms are positioned on three different levels. Each room is named after either an important Sicilian person or period of Sicilian history. The first floor is dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini. A world-renowned composer, born in Catania, and author of noted works like La Norma. The same Norma lends her name to our most beautiful suite. This suite boasts beautiful vaulted ceilings where, following a meticulous and complex restorative project, we were able to maintain the original frescoes, painted in the 18th century. The frescoes are not the only unique features of this suite, which could more accurately be called a royal apartment. It is almost 50m2 and has a fabulous bathroom, like something directly from the fabled Arabian Nights. The second floor is home to the rooms dedicated to Magna Grecia (Latin for "Greater Greece"): a very important period in the history of the city of Catania. The third floor is dedicated to Giovanni Verga. This author brought the name of Catania and of Sicily into the lives of many around the world with his historical novels, names that are kept alive today in names of the rooms of our hotel. All rooms are equipped with LCD monitor, WiFi, and a control panel for the electronic adjustment of lights, but most importantly they are very spacious. The Superior rooms boast either a splendid four-poster bed or a private terrace. One of the Superior rooms has a private access to the rooftop terrace with the possibility to book the exclusive use of the Solarium and the Jacuzzi. The Suites are particularly ample with separate, clearly defined living and sleeping quarters. The Suites also offer a relaxing shower with water massage. ... more   less
