This is a small B&B mid-way between Piazza Duomo and the bus station with just 7 to 8 minutes walking to each. Many of Catania's B&Bs are in what were once tenement buildings.
But do not be put off by the grubby exterior at street level. The rooms are peaceful, clean and tastefully modernised (within the last year or so). They are bright and spacious with air conditioning units and balconies onto the streets below. The owner has preserved the baroque carvings in the high ceilings and imaginatively used the original 200 year-old floor tiles as headboards to the beds.
But the star of the show is Roberto, the co-owner, who set out less than a year ago to create a friendly, interesting, family-run B&B. Breakfast in the kitchen with Roberto (and espresso and fresh cannoli each day) is not to be missed! He loves to talk and meet new people, very good with children and is a mine of information about Catania and Sicily. He will also help to organise tours, provide travel information, and generally take care of your needs.
Catania is a noisy, working city and not a tourist trap. It is also a useful springboard for day-trips to Etna, Siracuse, Noto, Taormina etc
The city is really interesting, Roberto is fun, and we extended our stay.
