Owner description: It’s possible to visit some amazing areas of the Benedictine cloistered Convent, the ruins of a roman domus recently found in its subsoil, the Church of Saint Benedict and its entrance: the stairs of the Angels. All this represents one of the most important baroque monumental complex. The tour includes the Macs – Museum of Contemporary Art of Sicily - located in the Convent ‘s little abbey.

“Less than Expected”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

The monastery was interesting in that it showed some early Greek foundations and walls, but then the main showpiece was the church of the monastery.

It had been restored to an earlier state and in the process some later painting had been lost.

As a record of the religious views of the time it was worth seeing, thought the speculations about what the paintings meant were treated as fact in the audio commentary. Some were frankly laughable. I was surprised too at the poor quality of some of the translations.

“Amazingly well preserved baroque church”
Reviewed May 8, 2014

This church is so amazingly well preserved and so richly ornate! I strongly advise visiting it, not for any religious motive but for the work of art on display. Take the audio guide and spend some time inside it is well worth it, also have a walk in the museum you will not regret it.

“Well preserved church”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

Beautiful church as a sample of the Sicilian Baroque. 5 Euro to visit - but worth it. The outside and the doors are impressive.

“Baroque Churches at their best”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

This area of Catania is well worth a visit. It is a concentration of old Baroque Churches of incredible stature. Find out the opening times as often these churches are closed at some times of the day

“What restauration can do to a place”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We just discovered this church by chance, and because of the signs that were outside, sayng that it had just recently been reopened after restauration. It is a beautiful barroque church and worth stepping into it. The restauration work is very nicely done, and you get an audio guide (included in the price) to go around.
One important piece of information: if you need a toilette that's not the place to go - they share the toilettes with the Museum of Contemporary Art, across the street.
