“Who designed this set?”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

If you have a very early flight, there is not much choice. The hotel is in a definitively industrial zone and does not lend itself to great visuals. Shame because the hotel is quite well designed and the rooms are particularly well appointed. Do not look out your window; just keep the curtains drawn and the illusion is complete. We were really well served in the dining room which had all tables except ours filled with solitary business diners. In the morning the shuttle left exactly at 6am and we were dropped off only moments later.

Room Tip: unless you need it, try to avoid the wheel chair accessible rooms, the toilet is really high and you...

Generally Italians / Sicilians have a good reputation for hospitality.

Unfortunately that was not the case at the Catania International Airport Hotel.

Things were bad from the beginning to the end. When we arrived at the hotel and told the receptionist that we had a reservation for one night and told our name, he just said: Passports please. Then he did what he needed to do with the passports, gave back the passports and handed us the room key and said: Your room is in the ground room. TV, left, right.

That was it. Absolutely no information about the breakfast, wireless internet, airport shuttle bus, the restaurant, or local services. No welcome at all in any form or shape.

We also had our dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was average, not great and not bad. We tried to order a bottle of wine from the wine list - which was limited anyway - only to be told that they did not have that specific wine in stock. We then chose another one which they did have.

Service during the dinner was not good either. There were only a few diners in a relatively large restaurant and there appeared to be plenty of waiters walking back and forth and not doing very much. However, our wine and water glasses were never refilled by the waiting staff. We had to take care of ourselves for the duration of our dinner. Filling up the customers' glasses can be expected as a minimum standard of service in a hotel of a four star restaurant.

I find it difficult to understand how they got their four stars as the standards are below of a hotel with four stars. Also, their pricing is too high for what they provide.

After the dinner we asked the receptionist (a different one this time) about the breakfast, the internet access code and the shuffle bus. We were told the location and the time of the breakfast, got the internet access code and were told that the shuttle bus will take customers to the airport free of charge. No mention was made about any specific times when the shuttle bus runs or any need to book it.

The breakfast was average with the standard dishes for a hotel breakfast.

When we went to check out after our breakfast we wanted to take the shuttle bus to the airport and were told that the next free one would be in 50 minutes. We were shocked as the main selling point of this hotel is the fact that it is close to the airport and has a free shuttle bus service.

As we did not want to wait 50 minutes or to pay for something which we expected to be a part of the service, we decided to walk. Luckily we were travelling light and that was possible. The airport is within a walking distance but the traffic makes it a bit dangerous for pedestians.

As a whole our experience at the Catania International Airport Hotel was a disappointment from the begining to the end.

A large new shiny international style hotel a few minutes drive from the airport. The shuttle bus turned up only about 10 minutes after I arrived at the bus stop which is as previously reported at the Departures level.

My room was huge as was the bathroom. Everything was very modern. A powerful shower and a very comfortable bed.

The staff I encountered were friendly and generally helpful. The place however is really functional rather than characterful or warm. Comments here about the industrial location are quite accurate. It mattered not a jot for my brief stay but the view from my balcony has to be the most unattractive I have had anywhere.

Dinner was slightly odd experience. A lot of business travellers dining alone. One sensed that everyone was feeling a little awkward. The food was reasonably good and I was pleased that the wine list carried several half bottles of good quality Sicilian wine. Most restaurants I visited thereafter sold he better wines only by the bottle. For the record I found the headwaiter to be courteous and professional. Buffet breakfast was fine though the hot food didn't look particularly appetising.

So if you have a late arrival or early start I think this hotel is very satisfactory. I also think it is very fairly priced.

End of May I called the hotel to book a room for the same night. I was told the price and confirmed the booking by providing my credit card number and warning that we would arrive very late.
On arrival around 11pm we were told that no room was left, except a nicer/bigger room.
So far so good, this happens all the time in hotels worldwide.

BUT we were asked to pay more for this room.
After loudly complaining and reminding them that the mistake is theirs and demanding to get that room for the initially agreed price, we were told that the room is not available!!!

This is a joke! When demanding to see the manager (who obviously stood a few meters away, as employees were constantly going to him), we were told he is not on the premises (a man obviously who does not shy away from his responsibilities...).

Oh by the way, our voices got louder indeed (for good reason I would say), but my petite wife and my lack of muscles did definitely not need a semi bodyguard to come stand next to me and try to impress me!!!

They then said they were trying to find a comparable hotel for the same rate, what they were considering to sell me for 129 Euros as comparable was a hotel which costs 59 Euros! and which I will also review as we booked it ourselves.

Shame on you at Catania International Airport Hotel!

We stayed here one night before heading to Messina. The hotel was very clean, spacious and modern. The staff was very friendly and helped us with figuring out our tickets to Messina. The breakfast was delicious as well!

Stayed 1 night prior to our flight home, made our way to the airport and phoned the hotel for a pick. They picked us up from the second floor pick up / drop off point at the hotel, very good service.

Hotel is modern but in an industrial area, rooms were very good, spacious and clean. Had a balcony with no furniture or viewpoint, so no point having this. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and a lovely bread selection. Had a drink at the bar but it had no atmosphere but nothing else to do in the area. The only other issue we had, which is not the hotels fault is that the parents of a young child allowed it to scream and shout along the corridor at 06:50, they made no attempt to stop it. Why are people so ignorant? Drop off back to the airport was again efficient. Would use again but would ask for a room at the far end of the corridor not next to the lifts as we were on this occasion.

We weren't expecting much from this hotel as we arranged to stay there only for its close proximity to the Catania airport. As we approached the hotel, we were dismayed by the somewhat run down industrial neighborhood. The hotel itself, though, was very nice. The lobby is bright and modern. The rooms are very spacious, modern, spotlessly clean with large bathrooms. A particular surprise was the restaurant, which served excellent Italian/Sicilian food.
