“Timelessly elegant and comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2012

Booked a suite on the hotel's own website at a great price (only a little more than a double room) and very impressed. The one-way streets caught us out but, arriving on Saturday afternoon, we were able to park on the street almost outside the hotel. The welcome, from Francesco, was warm and informative. He gave us a map, itemised all of the things we might want to see plus the important ones - a bar for lunch and three restaurants for dinner!

Our suite - Armonia was just as a suite should be, with a separate sitting room, bedroom and bathroom (shower, not bath). The two main rooms were timelessly elegant, befitting the age of the hotel and were in excellent shape (definitely not 'shabby chic' as described in a previous review) with painted ceilings and heavy, floor to ceiling drapes at the windows. The bathroom was beautifully decorated with tiled mosaics - small and not as well-planned for ease of use as it could have been, but that's a very small niggle as it had what we needed. The bed was very comfortable, as was the sofa and all of the facilities that we could have asked for.

Breakfast was good, if not exceptional (we had been spoiled at two bed and breakfast establishments) but offered the bonus of a video of Mount Etna. Francesco's recommendation for a restaurant was truly exceptional, both for fresh seafood and value. With his map, we found 'Il Mare' during the afternoon when it was closed. Be aware! When closed, it is often very difficult to spot restaurants as they tend to have shutters and no menu or other advertising visible. Il Mare was our seafood choice because we had been able to peer through the window and see the refrigerated display of fish.

Room Tip: We liked Armonia (Suite 205, First Floor) - well-decorated and quiet, spacious with a sitting room s...

An extremely elegant hotel, situated just a short walk from the city centre and a perfect haven of tranquility after the energy and excitment of downtown Catania. Rooms not huge, but that is to be expected from a boutique hotel close to the city centre. Service was friendly and efficient.

Set a short walk away from the bustle of the city center, the Liberty hotel is a welcoming island of calm. The staff are pleasant, informative, and helpful, recommending an excellent restaurant which we'd never have found by ourselves. The rooms have high ceilings, spacious, and decorated in a traditional classical style. We had a sitting area separated from the bedroom with a modern bathroom with all the toys you'd expect. Breakfast is a buffet affair set in one of the many sitting areas on the ground floor.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor. Traffic noise is not a problem, but front rooms may hear the bins...

Difficult to find, but just watch out for the "hotel" signs which will get you there in the end. When we arrived the staff were very helpful and pleasant, and that continued throughout our stay. Room could be described as shabby chic, and had everything we needed. Location is fantastic, could walk into centre in 5 minutes. Heartily recommend this place and their staff.

Wow,

At the tail end of our trip through Europe, mainly Italy, we stayed at the Liberty Hotel in Catania. We had a junior suite for an amazing price, including a separate bathroom and sitting room with bay windows complete with shutters. The decor is lovely including a beautiful marble staircase.
The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast spread bountiful and delicious.
If you are looking for a quiet hotel close to the centre of Catania from which to base yourself, (there are only 18 rooms), then this is the place to choose. You can walk to the centre of the city and then connect to all forms of transport including buses, trains, metro and taxis to travel to other places on the east coast of Sicily.
If we return to Sicily, we will definitely stay at the Liberty again.
Only missed 5 stars because the double bed was two beds pushed together but this is pretty standard we have found.

A small boutique style hotel with some of the best service I have experienced on our trip. Lovely but a tad small rooms, with nice bathrooms. Fantastic and personal service from the front of house people, particularly Franscesco who, from the start of the direct booking process, was charming. Good central location, and I would start again. Great value.

This is a very clean, charming and welcoming hotel. The decor was beautiful and let me know I was in Italy. The staff is attentive and provided us with excellent service. They were able to direct us around town and arranged airport transportation at a very reasonable cost. The hotel is easy walking distance to the Duomo and the fish market, which is not to be missed. Catania seems like a down to earth, blue collar type of town. It might be a bit gritty for some, but we felt very safe and comfortable and found the people to be very friendly. We knew nothing about it but picked it to stay in because it was relatively proximate to places we planned on seeing(Taormina, Siracusa, Ortigia). We loved the city and this hotel and will stay here again if/when we return.

Room Tip: There are rooms with terraces that are light, airy and spacious. I believe 208 is one of them.
