My kids (17,19, 20) and I just returned from a 12 day Mediterranean tour. Our favorite activity was a private shore excursion to Mount Etna. We connected with Davide at Continente Sicilia and began our best day of the cruise. We met Davide and the driver and headed up to the volcano. We made a stop in a true Italian village to buy things for lunch. We went to the local store and each chose what we wanted on sandwiches. Very charming and were great to boot!. We went on the tram and the 4 wheel buses to the top. We walked the crater and saw the steam. Davide drew on the ground how the various craters were created and showed us the hot spots. He did exactly what we wanted to do. When we wanted to slow down, we slowed. When we said we wanted to skip something, we skipped it. We made several stops on the way down. A local farm and our favorite, a trip into a lava tube. My kids still rave about this and especially about what a great guide Davide was. If we had more time we would have had him take us on his scuba tour!

Was prepared to be underwhelmed, but this is a huge volcano, and really impressive with over 300 craters. We hiked for about 4 hours in total, and saw the Valley of the Boulders, which looks like you would expect Mordor to look!

Approximately 3,326m above sea level. First thing I would suggest on this one is, don't go if you are aware of bad weather. It us utterly important that there is a clear vision from up there in order to enjoy the view and while doing that one can see whole Sicily from up there. On our experience it rained and there wasn't very clear vision. We still enjoyed it as on can see and go in the craters. One can also go on the cable cars :

1) cable car ride up to 2.500 meters : EUR: 28.30
2) cable car ride up to 2.800 meters : EUR: 55,00

One can also enjoy some shops that there are up there, souvenir shops, bars and restaurants.
Worth seeing if you are in Sicily.

Well, this is a place worth the visit per se.
Just travel around or go to Rifugio Sapienza, beautiful vies and options to climb small crater and go for a climb for htop.

This was our 3rd trip to the volcano but first time we actually went all the way up to the active crater at the summit!! It was absolutely amazing! We even got to hear the lava bubbling under our feet while we were there. Truly an amazing experience and a lot of fun with friends. We parked at the ski resort on the south side and hiked all the way up. Took about 4 hours with a lot of stops for snacks and pictures!
