This was our 3rd trip to the volcano but first time we actually went all the way up to the active crater at the summit!! It was absolutely amazing! We even got to hear the lava bubbling under our feet while we were there. Truly an amazing experience and a lot of fun with friends. We parked at the ski resort on the south side and hiked all the way up. Took about 4 hours with a lot of stops for snacks and pictures!

Mount Etna is a great tour if you wanna see the small villages and a national park. When we arrived at the vulcan itself the tour to go up the mountain is around 60 euros each person and we cannot see much, besides the dark rocks that came from the vulcan.

The view on the top is great, but I wanted to see some vulcan and there is nothing...

Our group of 8 did a Taormina and Villages of Mt. Etna tour with a wine tasting stop. It was excellent!!! Our guide Antonio was very knowledgeable about the area and the history. He took us to places off the beaten track where the big bus tours can't go. The scenery was beautiful. Our wine tasting experience at Gambino winery was the best ever and we are from the CA wine area. They bring you plates of cheese, salami, olives, sausages and bread to enjoy with your wines as you sit in the gardens overlooking the vineyard. It was moment we will all treasure forever. They have lots of other tour options to choose from.

The drive from the cruiseship terminal is worth it to see the volcano. Fairly recent eruptions give a first hand look at the devastation that can occur and how nature starts to grow again. Firemen diverted much of the lava flow to minimize the damage to the homes on the mountain side but damage along the path of the lava can still be seen.

I was able to take nice pictures but did not learn anything new. the guide was talking just about the food but not about the place. i was happy that members from the group were nice and easy going. we took Geo etna, so in case u see their flyers in hotel, think twice.!!unfortunately, hotel gives wrong indications.
