We went on the Summit guided tour (can't remember the name) boots, new socks and coats provided. We would also recommend you take a small scarf to cover your face at points and depending on weather trousers would be good too.
The tour took a while to get going and we weren't aware that it could be so cold and windy. As we hadn't done a lot research before going.
Our group was split into two, 1 French and 1 with Italian/English tourists.
The cable car took you up the first point, then 4x4 buses to the next, you then walk for 3-4 hours with a stop for lunch. This included walking right to the top where you can smell the sulphate and see the gases. Great views, very interesting and the tour guide was good!
Overall it was a good day, tiring as it was steep at time and awkward under foot so be prepared and take water and lunch.
