B&B Faro
Ranked #34 of 333 Catania B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 17, 2012

B&B Faro is exactly the kind of place which makes staying in a B&B so attractive. Anna gives you a welcoming feeling and makes you feel at ease as amongst old friends. Thereby the rooms ( and their private house) are designed with a lot of taste! Faro is right in the centre of wonderful Catania and at walking distance of all important venues ( not to forget the excellent Winebar at the opposite of the street).

What a nice place in the wonderful town of Catania, since i often visit Sicily and mostly i arrive to late to travel inland, i rest the night at this B&B.
Anna and Antonio, are great people, and wonderful hosts, and at the same time great artists!
i stayed in many rooms and i like them all, seen the place become more nice latest years, more colorful and one can see Antonio's art all over the place, its a sort of home for me, since i am coming there for about 8 years now!
Its very private, and has its own entrance, some very nice restaurants and bars are 2 steps away.
The owners can help you getting around but will never push themselves onto you. Well the owned for years a restaurant and have lots of experiance in taking care of guests
Thank you Anna and Antonio for all this years of perfect hospitality!

Let me start off by saying that Antonio and Anna are both wonderful and welcoming people. They will both do whatever they can to ensure your stay is enjoyable. Based on our stay, here are some of the Pro's and Con's we encountered.

Pro's:
1. Location is very good to the sites in town.
2. The room is very spacious and the bed comfortable. You do not typically see a room of this size in Europe.
3. The breakfast was your typical European spread, but was fresh and hit the spot. Antonio will make you fresh coffe, toast, tea, etc should you request it.
4. If you wish to take a trip to Mt Etna Antonio or Anna will be more than happy to book it for you if you wish to use one of the recommended excursion companies.

Con's:
1. Proximity to the train station and bus stops is a bit poor and are a bit of a walk away (20 minutes to train station), so if you have luggage, you will likely need to use a taxi which cost us about 16 euro to go 2 kilometers.
2. The TV cable did not work, thus we were regulated to watching movies we brought along.
3. Encountered a little bit of a language barrier while trying to speak English with Antonio and Anna.
4. Felt there could have been a greater knowlege of local amenities in town. Asked about a currency exchange location and was recommended to the local bank down the road. The bank could not exchange the currency since we did not have an account there, and we ended up spending 1.5 hours looking for a location to exchange some currency. Also, was advised we could pay for our Mt/ Etna excursion by credit card, but when our guide came to pick us up, it was cash only, thus leading to our needing to find a currency exchange as outlined above.

Bottom line for us was that though our stay was comfortable and Antonio and Anna were very accomodating, we left feeling a bit unfulfilled with our stay.

After two fabulous weeks in Sicily this past fall, we needed a bed for the night to catch an early flight out of Catania. Old Catania ca be chaotic and stressful to navigate. Calm set in once we reached Faro and Anna made us feel welcome and personally directed us to the drop off of our rental car.
Faro is a few minutes walk to Catania centre and the fish market where we enjoyed a fabulous lunch. Anna's recommendation for dinner, directly across from the b and b offered great food and good value.
Our early flight did not allow us to saveur breakfast but we would highly recommend this property and Antonio and Anna's attention to detail and their wonderful art.

The room would cost a fortune in a New York boutique hotel. Spacious, elegant, comfortable, airconditioned. The breakfast is much more cosy, but also excellent. The prorietors, Antonio and Anna very welcoming. And it's a great place to explore Catania - very central. Delightful and well worth the money.

Room Tip: they'll show you the rooms available and you can choose.

I selected this B&B based on Tripadvisor reviews and I'm glad I did! The location is excellent... right in the downtown near many restaurants, bars, and shops. It was also possible to walk to interbus station and train station. We used the bus to go to Siracusa and the train for Giardini Naxos/Taormina.
Although there were only 2 of us, they provided a big room that could hold 4 with balcony... really spacious! The room was spotless clean and with internet. As the other reviews mentioned, rooms are also decorated with Antonio paintings.
Breakfast was on a agreed time between us and Antonio (depending on what we had planned for the day), fresh food & coffee, and excellent music.
Anna was helpful in providing restaurant tips, places where locals go and not tourist traps. We appreciated this very much!
I hope I can return to Catania soon and if I do I will definitely stay here again!

I have just returned from Catania, Sicily where I stayed at B&B Faro. Both Antonio and Anna were very friendly and hospitable. The place was very clean and well equipped for your holiday to discover the city of Catania and the towns around. Surely, it is in an excellent location – just 1 minute walk to Etnea street, the main street in Catania, the duomo of St. Agatha, the fish, fruit & vegetable market and all the amenities including restaurants, pizzerias, grocery shops and bars. At the B&B, there is also a lift, so if you have any elderly travelling with you, do not worry, it is elderly friendly too. The B&B Faro is decorated with many original paintings which are the creation of Antonio himself. He will definitely love to share a chat with you about his paintings, exhibitions and motives. Staying here got also other advantages too because it is few minutes walk to the train station from where you can reach the beautiful town of Taormina, the beaches at Isola Bella, the Greek theatre, Siracusa, Messina amongst others. Both owners would be very glad to help you anytime either in the morning when they will prepare for you your excellent daily breakfast, in the afternoon or any other time you need to ask some questions. So, if you want to experience real Sicily, do not hesitate to go to Catania and stay at this B&B, because it is reallly worth it.
