“An absolutely beautiful farm at the foothills of mount Aetna, with a lovely guest house, great hospitality and food.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2010

My wife and I stayed at Sciaraviva, a working organic farm at the foothills of Mount Aetna in northeastern Sicily in January, 2010. The farm, which raises olives and wine grapes primarily, is absolutely lovely, with a beautiful, fully apportioned guest house in which we stayed. This included a small kitchen facility, sufficient for us to cook great meals with ingredients we purchased at nearby farmers markets and macellerias (butcher shops).

Breakfast was included and it was excellent. Because we don't eat many sweets in the morning, Virginie changed the breakfast to include wonderful cheeses and baked goods, along with the incredible, fresh squeezed juice from the Sanguenalla, or "blood oranges" from their farm.

Mario and Virginie are both very pleasent and very helpful in terms of providing guidance on travel, places to visit, etc. They are both very quiet and private, but engaging with their guests.

To top it all off, you can purchase some of their award winning olive oil, made from their organic olives, some of the very best we have ever had.

A terrific place which we highly recommend!!

We stayed with our little son (3 years) two wonderful weeks at Sciaraviva (in the finca as well as in one of the guest rooms) in April 2010 and had a wonderful time exploring not only the nearby areas of Monte Etna, Taormina and the Sicilian east coast but also the very secrets of this wonderful property itself. The main house and also the accomodation (both the little finca and the rooms) are simply stunning, extremely tastefully decorated and not at all the typical loveless agriturismo mainstream style often found in Italy (you wil also notice this when you enjoy your rich and plastic-free breakfast or the unique oil produced by Mario and his wife). The utmost friendly, helpful and discreet owners Mario and Virgina must have realised their very dream (they definitely realised ours). Probably WiFi would add the only missing puzzle piece to make this place perfect - but even without it, simply do not hesitate to stay there should you ever plan to travel to Sicily!

Anyone interested in experiencing the thrill of walking on Mt Etna should consider staying at Sciaraviva. It's a beautiful and relaxing place and the owners are incredibly helpful and well informed about the region. Mario organised two walking trips for my wife and myself and we came away delighted to have heard the hum of the volcano and walked through spectacular scenery. Virginia is passionate about food and we ate very well. All in all great value.

We stayed seven nights at the little guest house a bit a part from the main house. It is small, but very cosy and sufficiently equipped. The private garden with an excellent view on the sicilian landscape is just marvellous - a breakfast on the terrasse in the sun, but shaded by an olive tree, is a pure pleasure. Although we arrived with very much advance, we were welcomed cordially; Mario and Virginie were very friendly, discrete and always helpful. Sciaraviva is the right place to spend the holidays for all people looking for experience of the sicilian nature, away from the dust and the noise of the city. We were very impressed by the simple, natural style of the little house. It was very clean; in the middle of our stay, there was even someone who You will sleep in a calm surrounding; open windows at night aren't a problem. If you choose to stay there, be sure to love dogs - you will be welcomed by a quite huge, but absolutely lovely mixed breed that adores to be caressed.

We spent five nights in Sciaraviva en and enjoyed every minute.
A very nice restaurated house . In this restauration you see immediathly the presence
of the owner , who's an architect.
The rooms are marvellous, the dinning and breakfast room makes you want to stay
longer and the garden calls you to walk around .
When you choose to have dinner, without any doubt ,you'll find the influence of the french
roots from the woman of the house.

We are a couple with a baby of 8 months who spent 3 marvellous nights in Sciaraviva this month of september, whilst we were on our "honeymoon". The place has been restored with excellent taste and is really comfortable. Was completely adecquate to our needs with a little baby. The environment, the views, the garden is beautiful. Additionally, we decided to also have dinner there the 3 nights we stayed, and they were absolutely delicious. Also the breakfast was great.
Virginie and Mario were really warm with us and all we can say is that we really wish them the best and we hope we can return when our baby is more autonomous so we can do some treks in the Etna park.

Grazie infinite et merci beaucoup!
Isabel, Pedro and Eduardo :)
