Two of us from Las Vegas, NV, USA booked a private tour with Guglielmo to collect us at CAG for a day tour of the southern area of Sardinia in December 2013. Guglielmo has excellent English and was very informative about all aspects of Sardinia.
We first drove north to Su Nuraxi di Barumini, a UNESCO WHS. The ruins date back to 1800 or 1500 BC depending on who you talk to. The tour was awesome! We then drove to the top of the nearby plateau to seek out the wild miniature horses that live there; unfortunately all we saw were goats and cows. It was a nice walk. Drove back to Cagliari and looked at the long sandy
beach and a quick visit to nearby Marina Piccola. Then we drove by the lagoon where the Flamingoes stay year round. At the peak there are 4,000 breeding pairs. The young are white as they have yet to eat enough shrimp brine to change the colors of their feathers. We then had a traditional Sardegna lunch in the narrow streets of downtown Cagliari. We then drove to the top of the castle area and looked at towers and narrow streets. Visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria that dated back to the time of Spaniard rule. It held hundreds of various Saints ashes and was very ornate inside. We then visited Monte Urpine at sunset with fantastic views. Finally a stop at the Church of Sant Eulaia. Finally an espresso at the oldest bar in Cagliari. Then a short ride to the airport to fly back to FCO. It was a long and wonderful day with Guglielmo as our guide.
