City tour Cagliari bus tour was a disaster. Firstly the tour is supposed to leave from Piazza Yenne every half hour from 9.30am. It does not! We arrived at the port on a cruise ship and walked past the buses there, where there were no signs to say that as the cruise ship was in port the tour would leave from the port. We tried to board at the appropriate stop Piazza Yenne at 11am. When we arrived there we found around 12 others waiting and having spoken to these people ascertained that two had been there since 9am and no buses had passed. They had called the company who told them there would be a bus along soon. There was also an Italian girl waiting who called the company while we were there who was also told the same, and then informed us she had called 4 times already! At 12.15 a girl arrived with leaflets and tried to sell us tickets. Obviously we did not want to part with any money as we didn't believe the bus was going to arrive. 10 mins later one did, and the girl on the bus was very rude as we explained he situation and asked for a discount for our inconvenience. This fell on deaf ears and she informed us we could either pay or get off the bus! Lovely customer service with no explanation of what had delayed the bus other than it left from the port on days where cruise ships were in port. Signage to this effect would have been a good idea as my psychic powers were obviously not functioning that day! In all I would not recommend using this company, badly organised and with not one apology their customer service was non existent and there are plenty of other options including large open topped bus which we have use before without any problems and horse drawn carriage tours and Cagliari is a lovely place to visit, particularly the Elephant Tower.

I found CityTours via TripAdvisor and what a great find that was. My only complaint is that after following the link to the website I could not find more information on location, times etc.

But after checking the satellite view and getting myself accustomed with Cagliari, it was easy to find CityTour's location on the right hand side coming from the port or via Roma, right before via Manno with their bus waiting for the customers. Unfortunately or fortunately for me, I was the only customer on a sunny November day (after not working on a previous day as they do not work in rainy days) and I learned from Daniele, the driver, their flexibility on departures (not necessarily fixed for 30 min past the hour from 9am) as the tour lasted one hour and took us some 3 km east to some amazing locations near the sea and then back through the residential and historical part of Cagliari.

OK, you can do the historical part of Cagiari on foot on your own, but if you want to experience something different, CityTours is a must. Priced 10 euros per person per tour, with the information provided via ear pieces in your own language and extra info provided by Daniele in Italian at each location, my only complaint is that you cannot exit the bus when reaching Amfiteatro Romano for example (which apparently is closed for refurbishment but yet you can wonder near it's gates).

That is whay I recommended to them to think of a hop on - hop off bus.

We went on a caves and catacombs tour, which was part walking, part driving to the locations our guide spoke english very well. It was an interesting and informative tour some of the ancient caves had been used as air raid shelters during WWII which made the use of the caves more recent and understandable.
The second tour was to see Flammingo's which inhabit the salt flat areas for part of the year. We also went on a walk around the salt flats which were once mines and learned more about the area as it once was, we ended with a trip to Poetto beach in the evening for a drink on the beach.
Our third trip we booked to Sant' Antioco, which is about one and a half hour drive from Cagliari, it was a very interesting tour seeing many catacombs and places of interest within the town of Sant' Antioco and driven to see the coastline and a lovely beach, my only comment for change of the trip would be that as a tourist I felt an hour of free time to wander around the shops or have a drink on arriving at Sant' Antioco was necessary to make the experience more enjoyable and relaxing.
The tour group enjoy their work and want to share their love of their country with others which is really nice.

The tour has only one bus (probably). The pickup station is at Piazza Yenne, which is a short walk from the pier. if you walk on the main street from the pier, the stop is at your right, in the piazza. Tour is about 1 hour long and leaves once an hour. If the bus isn't there, there will be someone who sells tickets for the coming rides. They will sell you the ticket and tell you when the bus is due. Buy a ticket in advance, otherwise you won't have a place in the bus. Its an open bus, but not a double-Decker. When the bus arrives, expect some pushing and shoving (no need to, only ticket holders of that hour will go on the bus and actually there's no "good seat" - all are quite the same. You are provided with ear phones and there are explanations on the way. Its not a Hop-on Hop-off bus, but it stops for photo-ops. When we took the tour, the explanation system didn't work too well and mostly you heard music on the phones. There was a guide on the bus that now and then gave some remarks.
One of the pluses of this tour compare to others is that it does cover most of the attractions and goes all the way to the flamingo park.
If you do want to see the more interesting stuff (as the old town and towers) - the tour just points them and you'll have to go there by feet - its really close to Piazza Yenne.
