We stayed at the hotel Italia for 5 nights at the end of April. Although the hotel appears a bit out of date, the rooms were comfortable, and more importantly clean! The location is perfect for getting around, as it is close to the bus and train station. Even though it has a central location, when the blinds are shut, you cannot hear or see a thing.
The breakfast isn't anything to shout about - its continental with bread and a varierty of Jams, although as ever, the Italians do a fine coffee.
For those who wish to go to Poetto, get on the PQ or PF bus - don't make the mistake that we made, by purchasing a coach ticket which is invalid for local buses (or so we were told). We bought our 1 euro bus tickts from the train station. There is also a Hertz car rental place by the station, which had very reasonable prices (there were 8 of us though, renting 2 cars!)
Nearby there are a number of good trattorias and restaurants near by- Trattoria Gennargentu and Da Serafino on Via Sardegna served good home cooked cuisine.
All in all, a very reasonable stay, with friendly staff.
