Yes, it could do with a bit of character and it wasn't perfect but this was all-round a good option for a 4 day stay.
So the good points:
- good location and although on a main road, it's one way and not that busy.
- good connections the bus to town comes right past the front door and the bus from airport stops just round the corner. You want the stop opposite Billa supermarket
- our room on the 4th floor was clean tidy, had sea views and air con.
- clean pool area with sun beds umbrella etc and roof terrace on 4th floor that no one uses
The not so good:
- a bit of construction work going on around you (end of May 12). The promenade directly outside the hotel is being done up and the hotel next door is having something added to the roof. Both should be done soon and not a major problem
- Breakfast buffet was basic but I understand breakfast in Italy isnt much anyway! It gets a bit same-y after four days
The tips:
- our room had a fridge where hotel supplies water. Put your own drinks in, just remove while your room is cleaned and put them back after
- the daps restaurant about 100m along beach road away from town and back a block is excellent (well signposted)
- ice cream place in the piazza in old town (recommended by the Times according to the sign) is just yummy and if you want a cheap lunch go to th self service restaurant opposite it
- as already mentioned take bus from airport as only €1.50 each

A nice medium class hotel, perfectley situated on the beach, 10 min walking distance from the Old Town of Alghero.
Breakfast buffé OK. Very good service with beach towels, parasolls, umbrellas!!

The staff is very nice and helpful and they even managed to look honestly sorry for not beeing abel to provide bettet weather.
Really, value for money!
We booked via hotels.com, and the hotel really matched the information on the web.

The hotel was very clean, the staff was very helpful and very kind.
The pool of the hotel is nice since the beach in front of the hotel was quite dirty and there are payment reconstruction being done at this moment, which is not the fault of the hotel but at least it could be mentioned somewhere since you wake up listening to the noise of drillers.

I would suggest that the food for breakfast was more versatile. It is boring to eat every day the same cheese, same ham, bad juice and bad machine coffee since you know the Italian coffee is one of the best in the world. I think that even if the prices rise a bit a good food would be a good option.

15/20 mins to the heart of the city. 20 mins to one nicer beach Maria Pia Beach.

Room Tip: in front - facing the sea....as we had.

The hotel is right across from the beach. Walking distance (10min) to old town Alghero, where the tourist resturants & shops are. Bed were comfy and the air-conditioner cooled the room down pretty fast ( though couldn't get it to go below 68). Rooftop lounge chairs were great for the summer nights. Very relaxing!

We were a bit dubious as we had originally booked the Alghero Country Resort Hotel but having realised how far out of town it was and that we'd need to hire a car, which was extremely expensive, we decided to switch hotels at the last minute. We took the bus from the airport to the hotel at an incredible price of just 1 euro each; the journey takes only 15 minutes and the bus stop is but a five minute walk from the hotel. Having read some of the reviews we were a little concerned that the Soleado's location, being right on the main road, would be a problem but this turned out to be unfounded. The hotel is in an excellent location right opposite a clean, white sanded beach just metres from the hotel. Now and again on a gust of wind, there was an odd smell on the beach at times, possibly from the seaweed which washed up on the shore but was cleared away over night. The sea was clean and warm and pleasant to swim in. There is a great little coffee/snack/cocktail shack right outside the hotel serving fantastic coffee at a reasonable price which we frequented on a daily basis as we came off the beach at the end of the day. The hotel swimming pool was also good and very under used so absolutely no problems with sun loungers. There was also always a constant breeze around the pool which was most welcomed in the heat. On the 4th floor is a huge sun terrace with loungers, again with a good breeze, which was barely used by anyone, perhaps because nobody told you it was there (we only knew having read previous reviews on trip advisor). The room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a good shower room and large balcony; we were fortunate to have Room 416 which happens to be the last but one room on the top floor so the balcony was much larger and the bathroom was outside the room footprint unlike other rooms where the bathroom took up space within the footprint of the room. The down side is that the plumbing is extremely noisy so that when your neighbour flushes their toilet, even 4 or 5 rooms away, you can hear it like someone is jet washing the wall behind the bed head, although we don't know if the same could be said of other rooms. It was great to have a fridge in the room too. Breakfast was reasonable with lots of choice and we doubt anyone would eat more at home than was on offer at the hotel. We were half board and were glad to be able to switch between lunch and dinner when we wanted to although the restaurant itself completely lacked atmosphere; stark lighting and no music. Personally, we felt the starter choices were better than the main courses in both terms of size and choice but on the whole it was good. We wouldn't normally go half board but were glad we did as Sardinia is very expensive to eat out; lunch of one main course, bread and a beer and soft drink, cost about £40; dinner with starter and main and wine and beer, about £45 - £60. Would thoroughly recommend Trattoria Dona Isabel for the fabulous service, atmosphere (finally some background music...why does no where else in Alghero seem to have it we wonder???) and great food. The old town is just amazing and the walk along the prom to it each evening was a delight, especially to see the groups of people all sitting on the benches chatting, young and old alike, having a great social time. There is a maze of cobbled streets and a great atmosphere; we only discovered more to it after taking the little shuttle bus tour that goes right in to the heart of the town and along the bastion ramparts on the far side. We saw no anti-social behaviour whatsoever...the UK could learn a lesson from the Sardinians we think! We took the bus to Bosa and also to Stintino both of which are worth a visit and the cost and punctuality of the buses was great. The only thing we missed out on by not having a car was a visit to the Sella & Mosca Vineyard as no buses appeared to go there but apart from that, Alghero is a place where you could quite easily do without a car and we would recommend it.

We are just back from our second stay at this great hotel and could not fault it.
The owner, Angelo is very welcoming and Monica in the office is superb. They both helped us a lot both before our stay and during it.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and all the staff have big smiles and are extremely helpful.
The location is beautiful - the beach is just across the road and the old town is about 15 or 20 minutes walk away.
The rates are very reasonable for such a good hotel and the rooms are lovely with comfortable beds, good quality furniture and lots of space.
Truly an exceptional place.

My husband and I stayed there from Saturday to Tuesday- short weekend escape vacation! The hotel is located right in front of the beach and has a small swimming pool. The pool is good for cooling off after spending a day in the sun or a little swim in the morning. Our room was small and simple as well. It was very clean. The bathroom was nice, very clean and I liked the shower. The bed was a bit hard but it was ok. there was a fridge in our room. No coffee maker though. Our room was on the side of the building and when stepping on the balcony you could see the city and the beach. It was also on the 4th and last floor, and there's an access to the roof and it's filled with long chairs if you want to sunbathe on the roof!! Great view from there as well !
We really enjoyed the breakfast: coffee, tea, juices, pastries, cookies, cold meat and cheese, bread, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruits etc.....
The hotel is located 10 min walk from the port and old town. It was great. We would walk there at night and shop all the little markets along the beach.
Also, there are supermarkets closed by that stay open late even on Sundays.

To end this, I would say the hotel is great if you spend only a few days there and don't intend to spend your days at the hotel. We were there only to sleep so it worked great for us!!
