“Bellissimo!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

I went here with my boyfriend last week and we opted for the set menu which was 18 euros - for this we had 4 courses, a bottle of water, and half a bottle of wine. The food was all delicious and beautifully presented and the service was very warm and welcoming. We received excellent value for money. We had planned to visit another restaurant on our last night but it was closed so without a second thought we headed back to Sa Mesa as it was by far the best meal we'd had all holiday. On our second visit we tried the suckling pig which was perfect - the meat was very succulent and fell off the bone. Sa Mesa has a very homely feel and is full of rustic charm, it was full of locals both times we visited which I think says it all!

“Good Sardinian Food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

We were in this restaurant two times on our trip to Sardinia. The bread is delicious, in particular the cheese bread (one also get a bread without cheese for free in the beginning). Come early or book a table otherwise you will not get a table and if you are really late some dishes might not be available any more. Try the red house wine and enjoy your meal!

“A locals hang-out; authentic in every way.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

If you want to see what the locals think of a restaurant read the titles of their Sa Mesa reviews in Tripadvisor:
La Vera Cucina Sarda – True Sardinian Cooking Cibo Sardo, Genuino e Casalingo – Genuine, Homestyle Sardinian Food Ottima Cucina Sarda che Rievoca la Tradizione Culinaria – The Best Sardinian Cuisine that Recalls Culinary Traditions
Only a few months old, Sa Mesa, (‘The Table’ in Sardinian) is fast becoming popular with Algherese in the know. The restaurant’s website; informative and with a good gallery of images, boldly states their ethos; “Quality and Tradition”
Tradition is what it is all about. Firstly the interior, where many a good Italian restaurant will fall down. We ate at Sa Mesa in February when the night was wet and the temperature guaranteed to chill one to the bone. Mellow and warm as we walked in (not a neon strip light to be seen) the room, though large was warmed by two wood burning stoves. Dried meats hang above the counter, and everywhere there is a rich layering of Sardinian craft; tapestries, rugs, baskets and pottery.
The warmth extends to the maitre d’ and part owner Gigi Carboni who looked after us so well. His manner was relaxed but at the same time attentive and at every turn his pride for the food, for the sapori e profumi di Sardegna was obvious. He got off to a good start; we had a glass of Prosecco in our hands before you could blink.
Our meal kicked off with orecchiette pasta in a silky smooth sauce of rich porcini, smoked ricotta cheese and peppery rocket. The velvety mushrooms were only made better by the creamy cheese and the contrast of the sharp rocket. I could have eaten it twice. Spring lamb ribs and roasted potatoes followed and we literally devoured every last morsel of tender meat as we ate these tasty treats in our hands. We finished with a tart green apple sorbet, limoncellos and coffee. Dinner for two with wine and excellent pizza bread came in at a mere €50; bargain.
As we ate the restaurant continued to fill with locals. Word is out; and it is obvious that if Sa Mesa continues in this vein it is going to be an Alghero tradition for many years to come. I am looking forward to my next visit in Summer. Sa Mesa runs a worker’s lunch buffet on weekdays for only €10 which is gaining in popularity and I am keen to try it.

“Do not miss this place!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

This is one of the best places I have eaten in a while. Not sure whether its the amazing food, super helpful staff, great value, fab atmosphere or probably combination of all of them but you need to eat here.

“Great local food and a lot of it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

We opted for the menu "Sa Mesa". Two days later, we're still talking about it. Starts with a colossal mix of cold cuts and cheese on a bed of carasau. Then a local dish based on carasau but in the shape of a lasagna. At this stage most of the people give up. We continued hungry for more and got suckling pig with roast potatoes and finished it. To conclude, an industrial quantity of almond cookies. Finished off with mirto on the house. 25 euro each and if you choose a different wine, they discount the basic one from the menu. Go for it.
