Description: Benevennios. We are Rita and Mario, and together with our daughter Maria Grazia and our sons Michele and Giuseppe we run our farm stay "Sa Mandra". Twenty years ago we left Fonni, our birthtown and we moved to this region, Nurra, near Alghero, taking the affection from our native place and the love for our origins with us. Our lives have been made even happier with the birth of our kids first, and the birth of our nephew Fabrizio more recently. We both belong to families from agro-pastoral communities that moved to the same area in the northern Sardinia. We took our culture from Barbagia with us, and we use it as distinctive mark to run our business: the farm stay "Sa Mandra"( mandra stands for a circular paddock that shepherds used to build in order to confine sheep for milking). We started up this activity in 1993, in a plot of one hundred hectares close to Alghero and to the "Riviera del Corallo" (the coral coast), in the Nurra region, a flat land with few plateaus, rich in naturalistic and historical sites, monuments, with areas for growing medicinal herbs, other with olive groves, and lands left for grazing.Over the last 20 years we have asserted ourselves in this field, improving and increasing the range of services we are able to offer, thanks to our qualified staff (of 10-20 people depending the season), trained in our farm within the project Programma Operativo Regionale 2000/2006.We currently offer

“Sa Mandra is our sardinian secret”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Nothing to add to the reviews of the food - just excellent, Sardinian homegrown farmfood. Only comment: it's a lot - and not the typical 'light' food, so bring your sodium bicarbonate ;-). Because in our party there was a person that was non-carnivorous, we asked if there was fish. Maria replied: "o, but we don't produce fish here...!" And that sums up what it's all about. Although we like to keep these secrets to ourselves, as not to spoil the tranquil environment, we truly hope this place is here to stay for a long time, so we can return to Alghero very often. So go there as well, and keep the spirit alive!
The rooms are neat and tidy, but nothing very special. Just very ok, with € 90 not too cheap. The food is - € 45 all inclusive for dinner, with top-quality ingredients and very well cooked. We like to thank Maria for the excellent treatment and we hope to return soon.

“Dignified end to a great vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Spent our last night in Alghero with some friends at Sa Mandra. Didn't really know what to expect, but we were truly amazed by the local food. We ate constantly for 2-3 hours and most of the dishes were absolutely astonishing.

“Great dinner Great Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

We very much enjoyed the food, which was fresh, authentic and tasty. But the added value of the surroundings, the history and antics around makes as you eat in a great museum.
Lovely and recommended.

“Great Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

On the recommendation of our friends who live close by we went here for a Sunday lunch.
Very nice surroundings and the food and service were excellent. Loads to eat, cheeses and cold meats, then two types of pasta followed by suckling pig. You can order a vegetarian meal, but it is pretty basic. Wine was good and plenty of it. Afterwards we went for a delightful walk at Porto Conte up to Punta Giglio and back along the beach. We needed it after such a huge meal!!

“Lovely meal - delicous flavours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Had a lovely evening at Sa Mandra - very much an experience rather than just a meal out.
Was a bit confused to start with as to whether we needed to check-in for our reservation but we just followed the crowds to the pre-dinner drinks and nibbles and went from there!
The pre-dinner drinks and nibbles outside were lovely, and just a hint of what was to come.
I particularly enjoyed the pasta and meat courses - all very strong flavours and delicious.
Was a shame my partner had to drive so couldn't take advantage of the wine (they would do well to offer a shuttle bus from centre of town for say €5 each).
Was a lovely night
