Whoever said "there is no bad food in Puglia" had obviously never been here for lunch.
We chose this restaurant because the Michelin red guide have it 3 Xs, and because on TA it came up as the #1 restaurant in Bari.
What neither said is that the main restaurant is closed for lunch, and all they have is a small annex serving sandwiches and salads.
As it was pouring down outside, we decided that it would have to do ... What a mistake !!!!
The service was unbelievably slow even by Italian standards.
My wife ordered a pear/radicchio/walnut/rocket/gorgonzola salad and I ordered a basic ham/tomato/mozzarella sandwich.
When it all finally arrived, the waiter gave my wife a tuna, lettuce and
sweet corn salad. When she said that she hadn't ordered this, he tried to convince her that this was a better choice. She insisted on getting what she had ordered and got her original salad but with no gorgonzola and the story that they had no dressing to go with it. Instead they gave her a bottle of drizzling sweet balsamic vinegar, which kitchens generally use for artistic plate decoration.
In a country of wonderful tastes, my sandwich was so tasteless that I could have been eating cotton wool.
Beyond the food problems, it took a 2 hour lunch to eat a sandwich, and a salad, with two beers.
Maybe the main restaurant is good at dinner time, but why would anyone bother trying when there are so many other wonderful places to eat.
I should have realised that a French hotel with Italian management is not a great combination.
