Bed and Breakfast Santa Maria & del Buon Consiglio.
Our pleasant days in Bari began with our host picking us up at the airport late at night. As the hotel is situated inside the old city, we would have had problems to find it otherwise. We were given a small sightseeing tour before arriving at the hotel, which is very small in a house from the 11th-12th century on a small piazza dominated by a pair of columns from an old ruin. Being history lovers this site surpassed all our dreams. Our room was actually a suite. First we entered a front room dominated by a big globe and inside the large bed room we were impressed by the room's classic character. Dark parquet floors, a large heavy and elegant dark dinner oak table with chairs. Straight on the balcony from which we could look out over the lovely piazza. A huge flat screen TV is fitted into the furniture. The room is dominated by the four poster double bed. A short staircase leads to a large bathroom with everything that you wish and with very thick and fluffy towels.
Breakfast was served in the room by the host at the time we requested, a very simple breakfast with cappuccino, a croissant and a glass of good orange juice. Not much, but typically Italian. You can hardly find a better starting point for hikes in the old historical centre of Bari, close to the Normanic-Swabian Castle and the San Sabino Cathedral or the Basilica of San Nicola. Also close to nice restaurants. With the helpfulness we met and the proximity and historic charm, you cannot find a better place to stay here in Bari.

Room Tip: Ask for the Juloet room

We recently returned from a wonderful Bari mini getaway and can't help but echo the positive sentiments already shared on here.

It was such a unique and special experience to stay in a place with so much history and at the same time so comfortable with beautiful furnishing and so tastefully designed and decorated!

The location, just a couple of narrow and picturesque walk-ways away from both San Nicola and the lungomare, is an advantage that cannot be overlooked! It is also only about 5min walk to Piazza Mercantile where you have lots of eating options and a couple of minutes more and you're in downtown Bari.

About Gianni, I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said! We were both so impressed with his hospitality, the interest he took to make sure we are happy with everything, the extra length that he went to arrange for pick-up an drop-off to the airport, his genuine friendliness.. it was just a pleasure to have him as a host. I also appreciated the water bottles and the fruit awaiting us in the room and the cleaning service which I did not expect at all.

If we were to return to Bari, I know I wouldn't look elsewhere and we will recommend this B&B to anyone travelling in the area! I shouldn't forget to mention that it is great value for the money, I can't imagine there is better in all of Bari!

Ti ringraziamo tanto per tutto, Gianni! Auguri!

We stay in b&b for 3 days, after cruse September 9-12 2013, before flight to New York.. Owner met us in the port and drove us to the b&b. location is fantastic , in the middle of old city, room was nice and clean, every morning breakfast , plate of fruts afternoon , water in refrigerator. Gianni and his wife are wonderful hosts, nice and charming, not intrusive , assisting us with information about touristic places around Bari. Excellent experience, highly recommended.

The small square in the old town that our ground floor room overlooked was beautifully quaint, and was the perfect spot to sit in the evening for a glass of wine (from our helpfully provided fridge) and feel wonderfully immersed in Italy. Nicely off the beaten track and yet within an easy walk of restaurants in and around Mercantile Square - and the many churches. About 25 minutes gentle walk to the station and Gianni's recommendation to visit Polignano and Trani was spot on - beautiful old coastal towns and only about 25 mins train ride away. Immediately behind our rooms were steps down to the sea and again a half hour walk or bus ride takes you to a sandy beach with cafe. Gianni was the perfect host - charming, kind and helpful but not intrusive. Highly recommended.

We, a couple from Amsterdam, found this an excellent experience. The place is remarkable, an old restored building in the very heart of Bari vecchia, facing an ancient church ruin. (Just around the corner from the ferries). The owner is very hospitable and helpful, he came to get us from the station. The rooms were comfortable and had airco.
