“A landmark”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

It is indeed a landmark of the city.

However, the best views & photo shoot are from the outside.

You can also view the castle from the inside but there is very little to see: a couple of rooms with preserved remains from various part of Puglia and a video narrating the history. Unfortunately, there one can't climb up the towers and similar castle like touring.

Nonetheless, the entrance fee is just 3 euro ... basically nothing. COnsidering the price, I would go inside from a rapid view.

“Good but brief”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

I really liked this place, but was frustrated by the lack of access to several areas. I guess we just need to be patient while excavations continue; meanwhile, there are some fascinating artefacts from the 12th-15th century and an informative display on the history of the castle, its origins and uses.

The castle is very grand from the outside but is not worth visiting the inside. There is a kiosk in the beginning of the visit. It tells the history of the castle and is very long and boring. After just a few minutes my kids had had enough. There is nothing worth while to look at once inside. Either large empty rooms or the castle was displaying some very unusual art and even that was not interesting. There were large screens with odd people wearing a mask and then eating it...terrible. Even though the entrance fee is not much don't bother, buy a gelato from across the street, take a picture of the outside and move on....

“Decent site”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We enjoyed spending about an hour here recently on a trip to Bari. As others have noted the castle museum is not too extensive but there is nonetheless a fair amount of information inside about its history. There is also a room full of modern plaster models of statues from Bari and elsewhere in Puglia, including ones from the Cathedral and Basilica. Several rooms house exhibitions of modern art, which was not too amazing but a decent way to use the castle's space. The castle is also cool inside, which makes it worthwhile on a hot summer's day!

“A pleasant diversion but not too much there”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

The Norman walls remain and the fortress has been restored to its original appearance but there is much less to see than in other similar forts and you cannot access the walls. There is a good museum inside with sculpture and artifacts of the fortress and local churches.
