“We loved our stay in Vicenza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

We thought we would stay in Vicenza and use it as a base to see Northern Italy, we decided against renting a car this time around, and this place was perfect for us. The garden apartment is situated on a really large loop of bike path, so you can walk for hours and see so much. Downtown Vicenza is a 10 min walk and it has an amazing array of Renaissance architecture. There was an antique market on Sunday, a flea market on another day, and all kinds of interesting stores. A 15 min walk behind the apartment leads to a gorgeous 15th century cathedral called Monte Berico. We never left Vicenza because there was so much to see there. Bob and Jenny were such great hosts, they picked us up and dropped us off at the station, and stocked the kitchen with milk, yogurt, muesli, coffee, bread, cookies, jams, and peaches. Bob oriented us to the local stores and restaurants (a 5 min walk from the apartment) so we settled into a really nice rhythm of sight seeing and eating well. Had we decided to explore outside of Vicenza, the train system is very extensive with trains running frequently to all major towns. Buses are also plentiful. The walk to the train/bus station is 10 minutes and easy to navigate. Bob and Jenny's open door policy made us feel welcome immediately and was helpful when we had specific questions. Our stay in Vicenza was everything that we wanted, and more.

This was our second stay at Bob and Jenny's B&B in Vicenza and although our stay was much shorter this time around we were still given the first class treatment that we received on our last visit. Bob picked us up at the station, drove us to the B&B and helped us upstairs with our luggage. This B&B has all the things we need and the location is perfect for getting to some of the sites. We would recommend the B&B to travelers that want the ability to make some of their own meals as the B&B has the facilities to do so. It is more of a self contained unit than a B&B as it has washing facilities as well. Thanks Bob & Jenny it was great to catch up again.

The garden apt was lovely and in a neat location-just off the bike trail. Parking was convenient. The apt, sleeps a family of 4-5 comfortably, and the bathroom was large and well-equipped. The kitchen was well-stocked for do-it-yourself cooking. Breakfast items provided were basic but easily supplemented at the nearby grocery.

We stayed during a very hot and humid week, and unfortunately the apt does not have a/c. While it does cool off at night, the security shutters block the cooler outside air, and the fans do not provide enough cooling. I would keep this in mind if booking during the hot summer months, or if you are heat-sensitive.

The location is great because both old town and the train station are about a15 minute walk away. It's quiet at night for a good night's sleep.

I am glad to have checked in with Bob and Jenny's B&B during my visit in Vicenza. Bob picked me up from the station and also gave me an overview about Vicenza (including where to get good pizza, interesting buildings, etc.).
The accommodation was very clean and they really put effort into making a guest feel comfortable there. Bob was kind enough to even take a friend of mine back to the station with me.
I really enjoyed the stay and recommend Bob and Jenny's to everybody seeking for a place to stay with feel-good-atmosphere and very friendly hosts!

I stayed here with my wife and 2 friends in May 2012. It was very comfortable and I recommend it as a low cost base from which to explore the various attractions of Vicenza. From the back gate you can go left 300 metres to an excellent Patisserie and Italian style pub. It is also within walking distance of the Rotunda and the city centre. The nearby mini supermarket was a great source of food for dinner and cheap wines.
OK, its not the traditional oz or brit B&B, but the washing machine makes up for that, especially after almost two weeks of suitcase living.
The week we spent here went quickly and if I ever return to Vicenza this is the place I will be staying at.

We stayed at bob and Jenny's for 14 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay from start to finish.

The B&B is a family affair and we were well looked after.

We arrived in Vicenza in the pouring rain and the dark, Bob picked us up from the station and dropped us off at the door then helped carry our bags to our room.

After quickly running us through the facilities he left us to settle in. Later he gave us some hints for exploring the area and told us of some good places to eat.

We found the B&B quiet and we wanted for nothing. The rooms were spotless and were cleaned regularly throughout out stay with bed linel and towels also replaced regularly.

Breakfast was a do it yourself affair and was ample for our needs and a good way of doing it as we were not locked into any time frame. Cereal, yoghurt, bread, juice, fruit and tea and coffee are all provided.

The kitchen was a real bonus as we were able to cook in when we didn't feel like hitting any of the local eateries.

The B&B is a 15 to 20 minute walk into town and to the bus and train station. A walk we did everyday as we made this area our base for exploring surrounding towns including Verona and Venice, both a quick train ride away.

One particular bonus was watching a couple of otters at play in the river across the road from the B&B; we watched them through the window on 3 separate occasions.

When it was time to leave Bob drove us back to the station. It was hard to leave as we had been made to feel so at home by Bob and Jenny. We would definitely stay here again and most definitely recommend it to anyone contemplating a stay in Vicenza.

Thanks Bob & Jenny for a fantastic experience.

When we arrived at the bed and breakfast we thought the cab driver had taken us to the wrong place. The door is directly on the street - we were a little alarmed...but once we were led into the foyer it was a sight to behold. The streetside doors are a part of Italy we decided. There is no elevator and lugging the luggage up the flights of steps with no help is a little much if you're up in age. The rooms are within walking distance of everything! We walked to town every day and up to the Villa Valmarana. We had two disappointments - the cooking class that we had planned on did not work out - I suppose it was a communication error - but we thought Bob was going to let us know when it was scheduled - but he never did and when we mentioned it he said he made some spaghetti and we were welcome to come over....so that was a big disappointment. The other is to make sure you take extra Euros - they like to be paid in cash. The apartment was very roomy very relaxing, and very comfortable. The coffee pot is smaller than small - we jokingly referred to it as the borrowed pot from th dwarf village - we've decided if we go back to take some insant coffee. They also have free wifi and a washer! Nice conveniences.

The B&B is our home and we've invested considerable time and energy renovating the apartments to maximize sunlight and tranquility on the garden side and provide all the little comforts of home (soap for the washing machine, hairdryers, kitchen with pots and pans etc.). The upstairs apartment where L and D stayed is on the 2nd floor so there are 2 flights of stairs. I'm always happy to help guests with their bags when they arrive but happened to be away at the time and only returned after they had already got set up. Elevators are uncommon here as in most parts of Italy unless you are in a hotel setting somewhere out of town, so it's best to pack relatively lightly while traveling, otherwise just getting on and off trains can be cumbersome. We have nearly everything right here (bottle openers, adaptors etc.) but if necessary you can always find additional things you might need just up the road at one of the shops. We organize cooking courses as a courtesy to our guests but do need firm dates a day or two in advance in order to do so. Our friend Cristina who does the cooking classes was unavailable at the last moment (she too has a couple of kids to take care of) so I invited L and D over in friendship to learn how to make a traditional ragu sauce (Bolognese) on their last day. We must have got our lines crossed as I had all the ingredients laid out at noon the next day and was looking forward to having lunch together and chatting. Needless to say the food was all quickly devoured by our little ones but I'm sorry you missed a great meal and how to prepare it.
