“Great B&B - Shame about the weather!”
Reviewed June 11, 2011

We stayed in Casa Baldo for 3 nights in early June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is situated about 10 minutes outside the pedestrianised centre of Verona in a more resedential and peaceful area. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and offered us a choice of rooms as they had no other reservations at the time. We ended up in the Camera verde room, which had it's own private En-Suite bathroom. The continental breakfast on offer was very good - all standard food but with the bonus of homemade grape jam from the vines above the courtyard to accompany it! The weather was atrocious in Verona when we went, so we spent more time than we expected in the B&B but there were enough books and guidebooks there to keep us occupied. Upon leaving, we were presented with some of the grape jam as a gift, which was a very nice touch. The only downside to the B&B was the matress, which was a lot harder than we like, but this was only a minor thing that wouldn't stop us recommending this to others.

If you are willing to share a bathroom, I would recommend Casa Baldo. We had a spacious room with a double bed, beautifully decorated with antique furniture, two large windows, and a modern ceiling fan. The bed was a bit older and softer than I prefer, but I didn't have any problems sleeping on it. The shared bathroom was large and clean (though the floor grate for the shower was a bit hard on feet that were sore from walking).

The apartment itself has three rooms (two rooms with double beds, one room with two single beds), and they share a single bathroom; there is also a large dining room, a small kitchen, and a large shaded terrace for the guests to share. The apartment is peaceful and quiet, beautifully decorated throughout, and has large rooms and high ceilings. Casa Baldo is in a residential neighborhood across the river from the historical centre. It is a short walk to Piazza Erbe, and a 10-15 minute walk to the Arena - we always felt close to "the action," but far enough away that the area is very quiet.

Breakfast was continental - coffee/tea, juice, warm buns, packaged toasts, cookies, but made special by Cristina's homemade grape jelly. There was also a lovely touch upon checkout, where we were given small jars of the jelly to take home.

Our only problem was with the other guests. Our second night, there were some inconsiderate guests in another room. We arrived back from a day of wandering to find all the doors to the apartment open. They also apparently didn't understand what a shower curtain was for, and the next morning the bathroom was soaked - floor, walls, toilet paper, etc. Such are the dangers of shared bathrooms.
