Unfortunately the museum was closed because it was a monday. I was diappointed because there was an exhibition of Veronese paintings that I would have loved to see.

We arrived 45 minutes before the museum closed and whilst we were allowed to enter it was clear we were unwelcome. the staff were already closing the exhibits and packing up to home. At 20 minutes before closing time they told us to leave and they were all assembled at the entrance ready packed to go home. Left very unimpressed.

This mediaeval castle in the centre of Verona has been transformed into an excellent, modern museum, whilst not detracting from its ancient origins. The design of the spaces and the transformation of the rooms are worth seeing in their own right, but there is a good collection of paintings, augmented by some exceptional mediaeval pieces of sculpture.
To cap it all, the views of the city, river and surrounding hills from the tower and walls, is worth the entrance price alone.
This should not be missed.

This museum is definitely worth a visit. It has great paintings, historical artifacts, an impressive building, i.e. castle/fortress, good displays. The history of Verona and surroundings with exclusive pieces of some of the major medieval Italian painters and sculptors. I was impressed with some of the paintings that were surprisingly modern yet dated back to the 15th century.
Highlights for me: the painting by Giovan Francesco Caroto of a young boy with a children's drawing... I have never seen a children's drawing in a medieval painting before. The drawing could have been made today. Just incredible. Or the painting by Antonio di Puccio Pisano of Madonna with child. It has a Liberty/Jugenstil style.
For kids walking on the castle ramparts/walls is a great distraction.

You get both in one go! Great views from the ramparts.
Got told to leave my quite small rucksack in a box in the entry area. Not confident it would be looked after but I was reunited with it in the end. Guards a bit stoney faced but one fetched me a stool so redeemed!
