We noticed it was open to 7.30 and were going to visit early evening, but left it to the next morning and were glad we did as there is lots to see.

Room after room of glorious renaissance art, beautifully arranged and with information labels that give just enough information without turning into a novel. Unlike UK galleries, you aren't kept six feet from the exhibits so you can get close enough to notice details and brushwork, or folds in sculptured clothing. The place is arranged so that you go first through the museum/gallery, then on to the castle walls and towers.

TIP - the gift shop - by the ticket desk - has some of the least tacky souvenirs in Verona, at reasonable prices.

We were a bit 'fresco-ed out' by the time we visited this museum, so we didn't spend too long looking at the actual exhibits. However, the walk along the castle wall was extremely pleasant with some great views of the bridge and river. The have renovated the castle very well with interesting mixes between old and new. This was included in the Verona Card, if it hadn't of been, I'm not sure we would have bothered paying to visit.

The museum for me was slightly boring as I had been to similar ones before so the exhibition was not really fascinating. However, the castle itself is great and we had a wonderful time walking around on its walls and enjoying the views.

This museum was great! In Italy I can get overwhelmed by too much religious art. This museum had its share, but it also had weaponry and stories about the Scala family. I liked walking on the bridge and the battlements, too. The audio guide in English is definitely worthwhile.

This is the best art gallery we have ever visited. Allow yourself plenty of time. There is so much to see.
