Although you can't go into the smaller area with the arches, they're so beautiful to see - the architecture is so intricate (like a lot of the buildings in Verona) and they're easy to find - close to the main square. It's definitely worth reading the signs around them, the history is very interesting

As other reviewers have said, this is just a walk past these old tombs. We thought we would be able to go into the little area to see more closely, so used our Verona Card to go in to Scavi Scaligeri, however this was just a display of ruins under the city, accompanied by a photography exhibition. Not bad, but we wouldn't have bothered if we realised that it didn't take you into the area where the actual tombs were.
Worth walking by, perhaps combine it with your visit to the Torre dei Lamberti as they are right next to each other.

Just walk by and take photos. I got lost trying to find these, but if you get a map from the tourist office or from the Verona Card (highly suggest) it's clearly labelled. I think you can pay to go in, but I am not sure since I merely strolled by. Takes a minute or two.

This is a group of ornate ,Gothic funerary monuments of five notable members of the Scaliger family, who ruled in Verona from the 13th to the late 14th century.

The tombs are located in a courtyard of the little Santa Maria Antica church, separated from the street by a wrought iron enclosure, decorated with a ladder motif referencing the family name della Scala which means staircase in Italian. One of the tombs is built into the wall of the church.

Most of the tombs are shaped like a small temple and considered by historians to be outstanding examples of Gothic funerary art.

They are situated just outside the archway at the far end of the Piazza dei Signori.

You don't need to pay and spend the time to go inside to appreciate this site. Pull out your smartphone and google Della Scala or Scaligeri and read a summary of the history of this important ruling family of Verona. Their family crest which you will see everywhere contains a ladder which symbolized their climb to power from relatively modest beginnings.
