A little walk out of the centre is worth it to see this fantastic example of Italian Architecture. It's unique crypt and mezzanine level alter are magnificent. The cloisters are wonderfully picturesque.

Definitely worth the walk. If you need a rest before/after your visit there is a lovely little square for ice cream or spritz. Turn left out of the church and then follow the road down. The best place for spritz in the evening sun is on the opposite side of the road. Free nibbles too when you order a drink.
Anyway, back to San Zeno! Make sure you add this to your itinerary when in Verona. We had the Verona Card (20 euros for 72 hours) so entry was free. There is also an option to purchase a church pass which I think includes also the Duomo, St Anastasia and St Fermo.

This church has it's own unique history and quite a dramatic one at that, starting with San Zeno himself, an African for whom God provided fish on his pole as well as miracles through him. His bones remain in the crypt, which is on the bottom floor of this unique tri level structure. We could go down the steps and peer in from the gate.
On the top level, we smiled at the painting of Jesus raising Lazarus because of the three men in the upper right corner covering their noses.
Take time to enjoy the treasures of this amazing church, from the front door and its relieves to the crypt to the statue of Saint Zeno with his fishing pole to the amazing architecture to the frescoes and on and on-- without being overlooked or overwhelming.

Beautiful and worth the walk. Make sure you find the doors with the bronze panels which are on the inside.

The cloisters are a haven of peace and quiet. The main church has wonderful frescoes and the tomb of St Zeno. A must.
