The main doors are beautiful and the ordinate carvings are amazing. The paintings on the crosses telling the story of Christ are an awesome site.

This is a simpler church than many of the others, but there's real beauty in its simplicity. There are lovely stained-glass windows, and there's another, smaller church in a cellar below the main one.

The church is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture and the resting place of Verona's patron saint. St. Zeno was born in Northern Africa and converted his entire town before becoming the Bishop of Verona. His body can be seen inside a sarcophagus. There is a silver mask covering his face. There is also a very impressive statue of St. Zeno. The bronze doors you really could examine all day. They are the works of two periods:11th century German school and second half of the 12th century by a local artist. They are so detailed and so different yet they work so well together. The frescos are also a mix of style and time. I enjoyed the ones showing scenes of St. Zeno's life. I loved the staircases going up and to the altar area and the other going down into the crypt. The church is near the river and is easy to spot in the distance.

We bought and used the Verona Card here. If you are going to Verona to see the sights you should really buy the Verona Card. You can buy it at any of the places that accept it and at the tourist office in the Piazza Bra in the center of the historic town. The card costs 15€ for 2 days or 20€ for 5 days. It covered every place we wanted to go in Verona saving us lots of money. The card can only be used once at most places.

One of the most beautiful churches in Northern Italy. San Zeno is the patron saint of Verona and was born in Africa. A very pleasant surprise and in a nice locality away from the usual visitors.
