“Good hotel close to Piazza Bra”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2010

This is a good hotel close to the Piazza Bra. It is easy to find if walking, fairly hard to find if driving.

We stayed here for one night in late-Dec 2009. [The last day they were open before the Christmas break.] The hotel was centrally positioned in the heart of historic Verona (5 mins by bus from the rail station) less than 2 minutes walk from the stunning colosseum. Unfortunately the colosseum was closed because of ice while we were there. Fortunately, there is much more to see and do in this fabulous city. We got in quite a few sights - from Roman cobblestones to a free baroque concert in a stunning medieval location (our hosts put us onto this one!) to a Santa Claus fun run across Verona's historic bridges. Not a bad Christmas market either!

The hotel itself was quite small, but the owner was really helpful - pointing us to the free concert that on the night we were visiting. Our rooms were small, but quite comfortable and quiet (somewhat surprising given the location). The breakfast was very good value.

Although we only had 24hours in Verona, the hotel's location allowed us to maximise our sightseeing time - and we will certainly come back to this beautiful city.

The people are friendly and welcoming at Hotel Torocolo, the rooms are charming and cozy, the location — steps away from Piazza Bra and L'Arena — can't be beat. My husband and I go to Verona frequently on vacation, and this hotel is definitely the one we try for first (we only go elsewhere if they don't have anything available - they are popular!). Highly recommend this for anyone visiting Verona. The staff is also very knowledgeable and can point you to some of the best places in town for food, shopping, and sightseeing.

We stayed 1 night at the beginning of a small holiday and on the last day.

The room itself was big and airy, no view as we were on the top floor and the roof slopes down giving minimal window size. This was not a problem as we don't spend a long time in a room. The bed was acres huge and comfortable!

Only negative for the room was the schedule of the bottle collectors emptying the recycle bins nearby at c5am, we weren't bothered by any other noise and the hotel can't help the bottle collectors!

We arrived late on the first day which was not seen as a problem and advised of a late opening pizza restaurant near by which was the highlight of our holiday. We met 5 different reception staff over our 2 days all were hugely helpful and friendly.

Thanks for a great stay and a great birthday!
Pam & Scott

This hotel is in a fantastic location right on the edge of Piazza Bra - it couldn't have been better - and our hosts were wonderful. They were full of restaurant recommendations, feedback on the recommendations we'd had from friends and exceedingly welcoming. The room was a decent size, very clean and the shower very powerful. The only down points were no control over the heating so we had to sleep with the window open, which wouldn't have been a problem but for the three bottle bins outside the window that were emptied early both mornings we were there; unfortunately, this was compounded by a bed so hard that neither of us could sleep the first night. Would I stay there again, yes. Would I check outside the window for bottle bins, definitely!

Stayed in what might have been their best room. Nice and large with a comfortable king sized bed. Shower pressure was very good. Location is very close to the arena and the centre of the old town. The staff (owners?) are very friendly and very helpful. Only downside in our room was the noise from traffic and garbage collection every morning so if you want a lie in take earplugs!

Came to Verona to recover from a difficult 2 weeks in Croatia. This hotel was just the tonic. Friendly staff who insisted on teaching us little Italian phrases. Showed us all the good sites and explained the Verona card (which is great value). It is very central, right by the Arena. Close to shops and bars. A little weak on recommending good bars (you'll realise why when you meet them) but did have all the guide books in english, which worked just as well. A good place and I expect we'll be back.
