“Good hotel in quiet by-road”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2012

Nice hotel in very quiet by-road, 3 min. walk to Piazza Bra. Extremely nice and helpful staff. Good beds with good mattresses. Small and pricy garage.

We arrived in Verona by train and took the bus to Piazza Bra (Bus No 11 / 12 or 14) the hotel is situated across the road from the bus stop through an arch left of McDondalds. It is just outside the old city gate a few metres from Piazza Bra and the amphitheatre - great location. Verona is a compact city and the sights are mostly within easy walking distance. The hotel is a nice place with very helpful and friendly staff, there is a small bar and lounge and a lift. The rooms are clean with a mini bar and good bathroom facilities including hairdryer. Breakfast is standard continental, bread, cheeses, ham, cerials, eggs etc. The coffee was not great, the tea selection was varied but English Breakfast tea was hard to track down. The rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard. The location of the hotel is great just a short walk into Piazza Bra with its street cafes and imposing amphitheatre. Continue through the Piazza down the main shopping street onto other sights and Piazzas - a great city to walk around. The hotel does not have a restaurant but there are so many in the Piazza to choose from, we found a nice little restaurant just off the square which served good food and had a nice atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel for its location and super helpful staff.

This hotel excels in many ways: the location is perfect (a two minute walk to the arena, a fifteen minute walk from the station), the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are very clean and spacious. We had everything we needed and when we made special requests, such as extra pillows, the staff were very forthcoming.

There is very little that could be improved, but the only minor factors stopping me from giving it the full 5/5 is the following: the do not disturb sign was ignored and the staff cleaned our room anyway (this was not a significant incident for us as we had already left the hotel, but if we had still been asleep this may have created more of a disturbance); there was some kind of generator in the courtyard our room faced on to that meant we could not have the window open at night (we did not consider this enough of an annoyance to complain to the hotel staff, and I have no doubt they would have dealt with the issue quickly and without fuss if we had).

Overall, highly recommended.

Booked this venue for 7 nights whilst we were travelling through northern Italy just before Easter. Arrived in Verona by train and headed off to the city centre without a map of the city. Eventually found the tourist information centre off Piazza Bra and identified the street in which the hotel is located. Street numbering system is very confusing and after finally asking a local resident where the hotel was located, He was able to explain where we needed to go. It is noted that we were not the first travellers to have experienced similar difficulty in finding the hotel. It may be in the Hotel's interests to provide something to assist travellers in this regard eg. signage on Corso Porta Nuova.
A refurbishment of the Hotel appears to have been completed in the not to distant past and rooms are well appointed. The Hotel is very well located with it being only a couple of minutes walk to Piazza Bra. Breakfast facilites are satisfactory with items being refreshed very regularly.
At the time of our visit, the region had been subject to an early warm spring break and our room heated up very quickly. Airconditioning was not available and airflow through the room could only be generated by opening the window. Unfortunately, the room as above a street that was regularly used by both motorised and predestrian traffic and particularly on the weekend, was very noisy until the early hours of the morning. This impacted both the quality of our sleep and stay in the hotel.
Hotel seems to be used by a number of tour groups and families.

Room Tip: Make sure the room does not face Vicolo San Silvestro to avoid possible road noise

This hotel was nothing fancy, but it was clean and comfortable. And wi-fi was a plus. The staff were helpful and provided a good recommendation for dinner. The location was great, right at the gate of the old town. I had no complaints.

We had a great 3 night stay here. The hotel is just outside the city walls, 3 mins from the Arena and 8 from the main Piazza dell Erbe. It's well decorated and the staff are very freindly, speaking good English if necessary. Rooms are generous and well equipped. Breakfast was good, with a wide choice from the buffet. Couldn't do better in the price range than here.

The San Luca is in an excellent location for all the sights in this city. It has recently been refurbished. The rooms and bathrooms are very pleasant, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff we came into contact with are all very helpful and proficient in the English language. The European style buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices, seved in a light, airy and pleasantly decorated room. The waitress was extremely helpful. My husband went down early every morning and requested coffee to take up to our room. She made us a jug of coffee with hot milk - no extra charge. The public rooms are very attractive and comfortable.

We would definitely recommend this hotel for a short trip - it is a no frills, comfortable and very pleasant 3-star hotel.
