Colomba d'Oro Hotel

Location is perfect for seeing Verona. Close to the colosseum and shopping. This is an older hotel so the layout is a little quirky. Bedroom furnishings were a little dated but the bathroom was updated and nice. I agree within the reviewer who commented that the notice insulation is poor. I found the hotel staff to be very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very good.

Great location, just near the arena and in the heart of the old town. Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly, but sadly the rooms let this place down. Whilst very clean, they are quite dated, the beds are hard and the noise insulation is very poor so you hear everything that's going on in the hallways. For the money paid, I'm sure there are much better hotels in Verona.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a Verona opera package. The hotel is very dated and the reception ladies surly and unhelpful. Charming chambermaids and porters though. Other reviewers have summed this place up well - out of date, musty and distinctly lacking in charm or service. If you stay here, make sure you stay in a room facing the main street, not the side street as this has several large bottle banks which are extremely noisily emptied at 7am every morning and then again at 9am (even on Sundays!!) which is NOT HELPFUL if you are going to the opera and hitting the (soft lumpy mattresses) in the small hours of the morning. There is room service for breakfast (not advertised) if you ask for it, however we requested an iron at 6pm one evening to prepare for the opera and were told that irons were not allowed in the rooms - this is from a supposedly 4 star hotel to a responsible middle-aged client, not a youngster in a hostel - and there was no pressing service. Not impressed. The wifi is antiquated and barely works - you need two complicated codes to log-in and the signal drops after a few minutes at which point you need to re-enter the codes. Seriously annoying. Phone in the bedroom also didn't work and the booklet with the contact numbers was out of date. All in all, an establishment in need of modern management and a team who actually care about their clients. On the plus side, it is very conveniently located for the amphitheatre and the reception hall is quite pretty.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the side street are extremely noisy due to bottle banks

Only had one day before we caught a train to Venice, so the hotel was situated perfectly for that and the 10 walk to the city was easy...Perfect way to walk off dinner! Person at the front desk was a little rude; not sure if it was because we were speaking English. She didn't know where the duomo was, which surprised me. Breakfast was really good if not a little loud. But will chalk it up to One Direction being in town and we were overrun with tween girls. Lobby is beautiful but room and breakfast area were 70s throw backs. Overall good intro visit to Verona and this hotel was a fair price for location.

We booked this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews, and we weren't disappointed. It's in a great location, less than 200 yards from the main area in Verona, Piazza Brà where you will find bars, restaurants and the Arena. The hotel we thought was very nice, the room very clean and excellent maid service. The breakfast plentiful and good choice and service really good. we didn't use the bar at all - not sure many others did either.
If / when we go back to Verona we would definitely stay here again.

I probably visited the place not in the right moment. The first warm and humid nigh after so many days of rain: this was the excuse to have no air conditioning. Keeping the windows open was not an option given the rock music concert a few steps away in the wonderful Arena... (to be added that I could not reach the hotel parking because of the dedalus of one-ways and the special situation of the rock concert with many roads closed to traffic...) and had to find a spot elsewhere at to walk with luggages to the hotel.
However, the place is very nice, classic and romantic. Perfectly apt for the atmosphere of the area of the town within meters form the Arena. Room and bathroom spotless. The personnel, both at reception and at the restaurant for breakfast was very kind. Price in the high range of this level of hotels, justified by the outfit and the location.
All in all a very good spot. Score (in particular the sleep quality one), as my stay, was impaired by... bad luck.

Room Tip: carefully select the place when no rock concerts are held at the Arena...
