My wife and I stayed for 2 nights (23-25 September) of a 7 night trip; we wished we had stayed longer. We used public transport and it was a 10 minute walk from the train station and that was pulling along 2x20kg suitcases and hand luggage. If you’re walking from the station make sure you’re on the other side of the road to the Esso garage which is to the right as you leave the station and then keep going left until you reach Corso Porto Nuova and cross the road at the first crossing, the hotel is a further 2 minutes. The hotel is only 5-8 minutes stroll to the Piazza Bra where most roads and avenues to other places to see lead from there. The hotel has some lovely traditional features; it is not a contemporary hotel. The room was comfortable and updated but in keeping with the hotels traditional feel. It was very clean, not large but not small either. There was a mini bar/fridge to use for your own drinks or you can purchase the hotels selection. The modern bathroom was a good size and some lovely toiletries. The breakfast room was very light and airy and had quite a relaxing feel. There was a very good selection of continental style food. There was a courtyard where you could enjoy a drink from the bar. I would use this hotel again when we’re next in Verona

Room Tip: We were in a room which overlooked the courtyard and suffered no traffic noise.

As we were basing ourselves in Verona for a number of day trips, we wanted somewhere close to the station. This hotel suited perfectly as it was a short walk to the station, but it was still reasonably located for the old centre. The room was pleasant, clean but unmemorable. Hotel buffet breakfast had a wide selection.

Hotel was nice and staff kind and polite. Breakfast was very good and large. Hotel location also quite good near city center. But hard to find free and inexpensive parking near hotel for rent car.
Nevertheless we can recommendate this hotel for everyone, it is very good.

Room Tip: Higher floors might have less noise due to quite busy street with traffic noises or choose room from...

Dear Hannez24,
I am very pleased to read your review and would like to thank you to have chosen Grand Hotel Verona.
I know the garage is a little problem for all the hotels located in the historical centre of Verona. To find a free or inexpensive parking space, you should walk 1/2 km and this could be not very easy.

Staying in the Hotel was fully in compliance with the beautiful city of Verona. Nice hotel, perfect service and professional treatment provided by the staff just highlighted two days when we enjoyed and explored the culture and architecture of Verona in September. Incoming by car we especially appreciated the easy access to the hotel and safe parking in the nearest Garage Italia. It was pleasant to reach the historic centre of the city just in a few minutes by walking forward on Corso Porta Nuova. Room equipment, its cleanness, breakfast provided and finally the attitude of the hotel staff were at high professional level with no complain at all. Without any hesitation we are delighted to state that if we were to return to Verona we definitely stay in this hotel again.

We visited 4 hotels while on a 5 night trip in Italy and the other three hotels got 5 stars--this was the only one that got 4. The main reasons are: The Bed, The painfully slow and small elevator. And the lack of smiles and graciousness from the front desk. Do not misunderstand, nobody was anywhere near rude to us; but at check in and check out the attendents at the front desk just seemed to be wanting to do something else. We did have good service in the breakfast area. For me, a 5 star hotel is one that makes you feel welcome and relaxed as soon as you enter it and the front desk staff are the first faces you meet--they should have smiles on them.

The rooms and bathrooms are handsome, the floors are wood. The facade of the place is very clean as is the interior. Well done here. The room had a flyer that raved about the quality of the bed but we just found it to be too hard and so we slept but not very restfully. The location is excellent and just a 4-5 minute walk from their very old stone theatre or coliseum--whichever you'd call it. Driving into Verona on the Autustrada it looked to be a bit of a commercial/industrial area (which I hate) but as we exited and drove a few miles towards the hills a quaint and charming feel and look arrived. Verona is actually quite beautiful and romantic when you are near the theatre/coliseum. The street becomes a huge and semi round circle with the theatre in the middle. Along the periphery are shops, restaurants, and gelato shops with outdoor patio seating and benches to sit and watch. It was a pretty clean street and the further you walk down it the posher it gets. The street becomes marble slab that looks like you could eat off it and the shops get very trendy.

We dined at a spot just off this main strip on a side street; it was called 'Enoteca Segreta'--The Secret Wine Bar. We really enjoyed the food and the chef came out a couple times to be sure all the guests were happy. It's a spot were couples and groups come to linger over a meal for 2-3 hours--not at all like the 'hurry up and turn the table' mentality at USA restaurants. I loved this about Italy. The culture forces you to enjoy the simple and elementary pleasure of eating. I'd seek out Enoteca Segreta if you like good food and wine. It's not overpriced.

The Grand Hotel is just a customer service pep talk away from 5 stars so feel free to book it. Enjoy your stay.

Dear Talldarkhandsomest,
thank you for the feedback left on Tripadvisor.
I am quite surprised to read that you did not feel welcome and you did not meet a smile on your arrival and upon departure. I am surprised because our job is "guest oriented" and there is nothing more important than guest satisfaction.
Regarding the bed I am aware that the ergonomic mattresses we choose cannot please everybody (above all if a customer is used to a soft mattress).
Grand Hotel Verona is anyway a 4-star hotel and we do not pretend to be a 5 star. Everybody should feel free to book here and enjoy our service.

I was very pleased with this hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom were good sized. The breakfast was phenomenal compared to other Italian hotels I visited. It was also in a good location for all the sites in the city. The staff were very friendly and spoke good english. I would definitely stay there again and I highly recommend this hotel.
